06 c230 Thermostat
Hey guys. So i got the dreaded thermostat error code and I started looking for a new thermo as I have to get my car inspected. To my surprise the damn thing runs 99-149 dollars! My god, the thermo for my G37 was 26 dollars!
Anyone have a reputable dealer selling this thing for a decent price? Also, should I buy the MB coolant to replace what spills out during replacement or does regular coolant work as well.
Thanks!

Do NOT use "regular coolant". Mercedes usually uses Zerex G-05® Antifreeze/Coolant,.... depending on your location in a 50/50 distilled water mix.
Using a mityvac at the coolant reservoir or disconnecting one of the coolant hoses or just drain from the bottom of the radiator to take out about 2 litres of coolants should ensure a relatively non-messy thermostat replacement,.... without coolants spewing all over the place when you take the old thermostat out. If the coolant that you drained out looks clean,... then just reuse it and top off with distilled water. Your 2006 coolant should be good for 15 years.

I just paid ~$35 for one, but it was for the 1.8l m271 - I think you have the 2.5l V6, correct? I tried looking it up at Autohausaz but it was suspiciously missing...

The reason is so expensive is because it is a heated electrically controlled thermostat for the M272 engine. It can regulate the temperature from 85 degrees C to 105 degrees C. Don't cheap out on this one. Buy an OEM or OES one. I recommend RME for it. I also agree to only use OEM coolant. Look for the STAR article Splinter posted about why you should only use MB coolant.
