Cleaning seat belts?

Anyone hear clean their seat belts? Mine are looking quite crappy due to heavy usage.. I'd like to clean them but have heard varying things about methods and success rate.

Matt - I had the light alpaca grey interior in the 240. The seatbelts do get dirty - especially the driver's belt. I just used a powerful detergent/surfactant once every couple of years & they came up as new.

I must say one thing when comparing my CLK with the C. The German belts fitted to the CLK are not the same high quality fitted to the C and made in SA. I'm sure they are equally strong but the German belts get whiskers along the edges and on the face & look as though they will be more difficult to clean. The Polyamide fibre SABS belts fitted here don't do this, are thicker & have a slightly shiney surface to the weave & clean very easily.

My car would have the German belts. Do you have a specific product recommendation?

Matt, I nick a small bottle of the general purpose potent industrial detergent that my dealer's detailing department uses to remove mechanic's black crap from doors, seats, carpets & trim. It's made right here in Cape Town. There must be thousands of suppliers of similar things in the US. It is thin watery, blue in colour powerful surfactant. Foams very little & is quite unlike dishwashing liquid.

I'm sure someone like Dow chemical makes. Make sure it is fairly neutral ph.

You could always just use a 6:1 water to Woolite mixture. I've used it on past cars and it worked well for me.

Good tip, I need to have this done for summertime. My seatbelts need a good cleansing.

Woolite is too lightweight if they are heavily soiled. Should do light soiling. Seatbelts are made of tuff stuff!

True, if they're heavily soiled it probably wouldn't cut it, but I've seen many of people do wonders with Woolite. Plus you can use it to wash your microfibers with so it's versatile. Either way, handy stuff to have around and readily available locally.

Off topic, but what do you use on your leather/ MB-tex Glyn? Been meaning to ask you for a few days now.

It's SA leather on the old C240 above. I use the same detergent I talked about to Matt & then Maquiar's Rich Leather Cleaner/Conditioner Cream.
