Bought an 05 c230k just under a month ago and conveniently as i was driving to pick up the aux cable from the dealership my check engine light came on. Decided to ask them about the recall and said it needs to be done, so let them have it today. They checked out the light and told me the thermostat is stuck wide open and it would cost total 511.87 to fix! That's crazy lol. I'll do it myself or have my mechanic do it... Car has 68k on it.

The M271 (2003-2005 C230) thermostat is held by 2 bolts (E8 inverted torx) at the front of the engine block. You'll need to buy a jug of coolant as well, to replace whatever gushes out during this repair.
The 90C thermostat is available from RM European for some $34USD. The dealership wanted $400 for this one.
There is no longer any 87C version. The part number you want (90C) is 271-203-05-75.
