Strange dashboard message re: check oil

Just in the past week or so I get a message in the center of the dash that reads "check engine oil level at next gas station". I've checked the level a number of times and it's within normal range each time. Usually only happens after being on the highway for a while and typically right after you exit and take a curved ramp at a slower speed. It's been about 7,000 miles since the last oil change and I'm changing the oil and filter tomorrow morning just as a precaution.

Anyone seen this before and have any explanation of what causes it? It usually goes off after a few minutes without stopping the car as well. Oh, and I've got right at 99,500 miles as of this afternoon.

its common if they put to much oil or too little oil at the previous oil change. The way your describing it is that they may have either case. The only time you need to be 100 percent concerned about the oil is when the red low oil light comes on... thats when you in trouble. Check your oil level make sure its not to high.. what's what happened to me.. I had to vacum out a 1/8 quarter to get it within range of the dipstick and now its gone

Thanks but I doubt that's it as I change my own oil and filter and am very carefull to not overfill. We'll see if the filter and oil change tomorrow makes any difference. My biggest fear was that maybe the oil pump or something was starting to go.

Your level sensor could be faulty. It happens!

Actually this happened to me quite often before when i first got my car. It would show up and then disappear for a while then come back out of no where. I get my oils replaced every 3-4k miles. I actually went to the dealer, well not for the 'check oil at nearest gas station' but cause my radio display wouldn't show but work LOL!
I told my adviser and he said something was leaking but I got it all fixed under Mercedes warranty.
I would just get it checked just in case =/ my 2 cents

Well, I changed the oil and filter today so we will see if the message comes back. I made sure everything was topped off correctly so there shouldn't be any messages.
