- Mercedes-Benz C-Class: Why is My Car Leaking Oil?
Guide to diagnose trouble and recommended solutions

2005 M.Benz C240, major oil leak, finding oil on garage floor, not sure what to do...

So now I'll tell you what I saw.... NOT GOOD. I found the entire transmission pan saturated with oil, I'm assuming transmission fluid, could still be motor oil but I'm assuming tranny fluid. So, I cleaned everything down, engine cleaner, garden hose, made it shine. Will monitor but any suggestions? Again, no motor oil area is leaking, transmission yes.
2 other questions?
Where can I buy a transmission dipstick to check the fluid and add when needed? I will need to remove a plastic lock cover off of the dipstick pole for checking the fluid level, then install the dipstick.
What kind of transmission fluid can I use? Thanks Guys!!!

Check pan gasket & plug crush washer.
Check front & rear seals for leaks.
Check that this banjo union is tight. It can make a real mess.
Use fluid meeting 236.14. Shell ATF134 is the cheapest from Ryderfleetproducts - search link on the forum.

Would this be the correct dipstick?

It can be inserted from beneath & locks the cap well as it is an interference fit.
This is useful if you wish to drive the car to bring your ATM oil up to operating temp. then open the tube to top up if needed.
On the transmission fill cap area there is a protective locking cap (black in color) with an area, as shown in the pictures, that can be removed, does that peice need to be broken off and then replaced with the red replacement pin.

I guess what I'm asking is, once this piece is removed, is that where the ATF dipstick go into or does the entire black locking cap have to come off? And does this procedure have to occur every time I want to check the ATF? Thanks guys!!

Another question?
Can I use Castrol Transmission Fluid or do I need to buy M.B. Transmission fluid only? Autozone says it will work but they are not sure......
You want to use only approved fluid. The best place we have found for that is http://www.ryderfleetproducts.com/ry...oductDetail.do
The dealers charge 3x that price.
Thanks
