However they are a bit on the hard side for me and are not extremely quiet at low speeds and over hard bumps. I'd like to try a slightly softer and quieter tire next time around.

Well if you're not in any cold winters just go for the DW then, a bit softer since the tread wear is lower

i dont know what other tire ur gunna find thats softer than german rubber

only real downside of the dws i've experienced is that the front tires skid out at low speeds when turning hard

+1 I love mine they lasted me two summers but I have no clue how many miles but I would say at least 15k. The rears are now bald but the front have probably at least anohter half summer if not more.

How is the noise and road feel now that the tread has worn down?

THE C350
Road noise did get worse towards the end but not anything worse than any of the other tires I have used past there prime. Road feel still is great till recently but that is because the rears are just past the wear markers so that is not suprising. Wet traction has also been really good up until now to.

Maybe some of you who have suggested certain tires can put some mileage numbers to them...
HTRZIII on the 204 c350. 12-13k miles and still kicking i predict they will last till 15-16k miles. However, i'm in rain free country called Los Angeles i tend to run them till all tread are gone.

I'm beginning to wonder if my rear tire wear is related to something I'm doing!

As I said in my previous post, I don't abuse my tires. I keep them inflated and the last a lot longer on my other and previous cars. My DWSs are lasting longer than my Sumitomos did, but then that's saying very little.

It's pretty mild here in NC. There are occasional snows and more frequently, but not often rains (I used to live in New Orleans so I know rain!), so it's surely not a more challenging tire climate than any place else.

Maybe, I'm not holding my mouth right!

If $ is no object, Michelin PSS. If it is, Conti DW.

I started with the MB recommended pressure, 28/32 and maybe about six thousand miles ago, I tried a suggestion from MBWorld to increase my tire pressure to 32/36. The wear seems pretty even across the tread. I haven't been doing it that long so I don't think that has adversely affected the life of my tires that much. Maybe I'm wrong... any ideas?

Run 32psi front and rear if you're running OEM wheels

I'm running the stock size wheels and tires. There certainly are a lot of opinions about tire pressure!

Plenty of options if you want to experiment. 32psi front and rear is the most natural way to go. Go ask a tire dealer if you don't beleive me.

x2 and x3 even..

So I've gone though 2 sets of DW's (not DWS's) and they are great. Someone mentioned wanting a slightly softer compound and the DW's will take care of that. I too have the same complains on the DWS's I JUST put on. They work but not like the DW's.

However before I moved to Boston I was actually going to get some PSS's. Co-worker had them on his e90 m3 and they were very nice. Once winter is over I'll be getting some new wheels with PSS's on them. Then keep the DWS's for winter.

I have almost 16k on my Conti DW, and the rears are done.
Had the pressure at ~32, and the outside tread on rears is still about 4/32, but the tread in the middle of the left rear tire is like 1/64 now.

So I guess had I inflated to 37 psi, I would have had to change the rear tires a couple of months ago?

Yeah that'd do it. =( If it makes you feel better I go through 2 sets of rears for ever set of fronts.

My wife got me one of the longacre tire pressure gauges for xmas. Super handy to have, I just keep it in the trunk next to the jumper cables. With the purge button you can set your tire pressure to exactly what you want.

37 psi would only apply to the DWS tires since they are double the tread of any tire

Nice. I just carry a cheap one from like walmart inside the glovebox in the pen holder thing.
Also had to buy a Viair 00073 compressor, because when I had a slow leak in a rear tire none of my friends seemed to have a compressor handy.

OK, got it. Good info since I will probably have DWS's installed on rears in the nearest future.

All W203 mercs don't have a compressor tucked away in the boot? I was surprised when I found mine, but then I assumed we all had them.

Maybe other guys have info on this, but it's the first time I hear about it...
I mean, come on, they even don't have an emergency triangle on the trunk lid, not to mention a compressor.
