I just turned 80,000. The service adviser gave me 15% off the conductor plate I tried with no luck to see if Mercedes would reimburse me, since you cant get the part anywhere but from them.

Did they need to be replaced, or they just did it because they were common issues? I've heard about the conductor plates but not the cam solenoids. Do these cars have variable cam timing?

My SA didn't offer to extend my warranty at all... it was over 30,000 miles ago so I wouldn't expect him to reinstate it.

They certainly have fully variable cam timing on quad cams. It's not the cam solenoids/sensors that give trouble on early M272's - it's the magnets - redesigned - cheap & easy to repair. Covered in the sprocket bulletin.

Same thing just happened on my 07 sport. Dealership replaced the valve body. I can guarantee that's what the problem is. Or the conductor plate on the valve body.

My car had 18,000 miles on it when I experienced the same thing. There is REALLY no excuse. Lol. A whole new valve body.

That really would have been great if they would have done that, because now 10 months later, I have a CEL...

FML.

I'm at 94,000 miles. This is outrageous. Less than 100k and I've already had a $1000 trans issue and now I'm looking at a $5,000 engine issue. The car isn't even paid off for another two months... So for what I paid for the (2 year old 25k mile used) car, plus the extended warranty that, of course, ended just before any of this happened, I could have bought a brand new car with a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.

I can't put $5k into this car. I'll have to fix it myself.

That is more than likely the Cam magnet issue and not the balance shaft issue. You have an 07, and most 07's, have the new balance shaft sprockets. Use EPC and get your engine serial number off the datacard, and compare to the numbers in the DTB

16 & 17 together can be ominous. Just do a boroscope inspection of the sprocket to put your mind at rest. We got one done for California the other day on the W209 forum & she's happy. No problems.
