2002 C240 Aftermarket Radio Unit

I have the original Bose equipment in my car and am interested in upgrading it to a double din 7" GPS/DVD/CD/etc. receiver. My questions are :
  1. If the HU says steering wheel control, doest it map all 4 buttons? Vol+/-, reach +/-?
  2. Once installed, does it feed back info to the center console? Will I see any info (radio station/CD tracks/????) on the center screen of the instrument panel?
  3. Are they Plug&Play, I mean, once I remove the OE radio, is it just wiring to be done? or do I need special consideration for amp or something? I have read something about this but very confusing.
  4. Can I hook up anything to make the phone buttons on the steering wheel work with the phone function on the double din HU?

Thanks!

I don't know a whole lot about this. I still have my OE Head Unit and CD changer, but I've read a bit (and since nobody else has posted) I'll answer what I can.

1. I'm not sure what you mean here, but I think what you're getting at is you will need an adapter to go from your steering wheel controls to your new HU. There are other threads that discuss this and I'm not sure which one you want.

2. I doubt it.

3. I think the up market systems (Bose, HK) are not trivial. Can't remember which one, but I think I read that one uses fibre optic connections.

4. As far as I know, there is no adapter that will support the phone buttons (at least not as phone buttons). It seems I read that some adapters can be programmed to support them for some use, but I'm not sure.

Ok, maybe not the most informative post.

Which HU are you considering? I've been looking at doing this (read: have this done for me) for some time. I'd love to compare notes.

Thank you for your quick response. It was help full. I am not looking into spending much, I am not looking to a Pioneer ($1000+) I wanted to spend more like $300 dls. I found one that has everything, but am not sure. Review are ok, but I am searching for more info. Specially if anyone has installed one. The model is an Eonon D2216 or 2217. Costs around $300. But I have no info on if it is 100% compatible, if I need adicional modules, if (all my questions above). I know Schosche has a an adapter for my car, and wirring as well so on install we dont have to cut wires, so if I want the original HU back I can just replace it..
But I am worried about sound quality, connectivity and compatibility.

That Eonon looks pretty interesting, but I would be careful. I would stick with a name brand if I were you. Even with the major brands, the reviews can be pretty erratic. One of the ones I was looking at was the Jensen VM9424BT. It is very positively reviewed on Amazon (maybe Crutchfield, too, don't remember) and it's less than $400 though that does not include the steering wheel kit. You can get a sense of what they are like on Youtube. Vendors and users will often post videos of new HUs.

I just noticed that the Eonon seems to have the microphone built in. I think that could be a bad design feature. I'm interested in Bluetooth and navigation and when I got my Garmin with Bluetooth, I thought I was done, but the microphone is on the GPS and people report that it sounds like I'm at the bottom of a well unless I hold the GPS in my hand. A separate mic that you can put closer to you is what you want, I think.

Thanks I have been looking at Crutchfield as well. My concern thou for all is the compatability of the HU with the car, I have read several post about it and to be honest I am a bit confused. I dont understand if the installation is a "simple" one or is "specialized" due to the bose system or other considerations.

The one thing I'm pretty confident of is that Crutchfield's is wrong when it says the dual Din HUs. You might find this thread interesting: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ts-images.html. There are others you might find if you do a search.

Sorry I can't help you with the difficulty your Bose imposes. Maybe that thread can help or you can try a search.
