turn signal bulb socket melt

this seems like an old topic...but anway....

im having a problem with my left front turn signal bulb. its not working bcoz one metal ground does not seem to have enough contact with the copper contacts in the headlight housing. had this many months ago..but i was able to rectify it by just sanding down the copper contacts and pulling them apart. now, its recurring again, and it seems the copper contact in the headlight has some burnt material on it.

this is really terrible...ive already replaced in a months time...battery....rear fuse box....air mass sensor.... and now????? dont tell me im gonna need to replace sumthin on the turn signal problem.

Tech bulletin.....

There is a tech bulletin for this problem. Wires are added and spliced in on both sides to correct it. I was having erratic turn signal operation and bulbs going out and they installed the upgrade to make everything fine now.

"Turn signal update/modification to l/f and r/f turn signal bulb socket wiring harness.

1 000-545-78-80 PLUG

yeheyyy...i was able to fix Again my turn signal on the left headlight.........i soldered some lead on one of the bulb socket's contacts...then....there was this thin plastic overlaying on the copper contacts on the headlight housing-factory defect...so we just trimmed it off for negative ground... everything is fine now....

at least for now.... hehehehehe

but i think its d most logical fix...u get loose contact,,,u add more lead to increase it,,,and trim down excess plastic around the copper contacts...

cheap fix..cost me 2bucks.

Mleskovar...i think my problem is different..my bulbs dont burn out.....it just looses "Contact".

Moomeh.....wen my rear fuse box/SAM failed..it was really super duper weird...i lost almost all electrical functions..including turn signals and wipers...n interior dome lights....fuel gauge..LOL

With empty pockets....My car is fixed now, and im driving it everyday!!!!!!!!

My car goes in Monday morning for the same problem. A pulled out the bulb holder and one electrode was burnt. My service manager says it is a known problem and said that it should be a 45 min repair.

I had mine replaced too, although they turned out not to be the cause of the problem being chased. There's a bulletin, it's a warranty item, so just take it in.

BruNo I forgot that you don't have ready access to a dealer. My turn signal problem was fixed by replacing parts number 203-826-02-82 Lamp socket. They replaced both sides. It is a known warrenty issue. You may be able to write MB and get them to send you the parts for free.

good memory Steve, however, wen my car bogged down bcoz of a defective rear fusebox and air mas sensor, i had no choice but to request a technician from MB to my place.hehehe

bad thing is, less than a week after i got my car fixed...this turn signal problem came out. its fixed now, i just re-"soldered" the electrode that was burnt. i think this fix is enough to solve the problem permanently. MB here does not replace parts that easily bcoz they themselves are the ones who told me that they just "re-solder" the bulb sockets in these cases..and thats its a very common problem.

btw, how can it be a 45minute job if they only change the bulb sockets????? also, if i try to switch my right socket with the left one, the turn signals wont work...so i guess the problem lies in the left side housing itself, not only on the bulb socket.

As to the actual repair, from the time I entered the service garage until I picked up the keys from the cashier, it was 60 mins. When I looked under the hood, the white bulb holders were clearly new but the housing was original. The new holder's design, I think ,is different. They only listed one replacement part number on the receipt but didn't list labor. Like you I also thought the problem was in the housing but the repair was too fast to pull out the housing, do the required work, reinstall and readjust the headlights.
