Driving impression on C240 Wagon?? Anyone??
Driving impression on C240 Wagon?? Anyone?? I got an loaner for C320 Wagon and my wife really love it but since its gonna be a spare car I'm thinking about just get the new C240 wagon. How is the performance on it. It is worth buying. Where I live requires a lot of climing, would it be too slow for the task?

Well, I have a C320 4Matic Wagon and the thing is slow to me...I also test drove a C240 4Matic sedan and the engine was rougher and it appeard a lot slower than the C320 I have now. I would test drive both, but I imagine a C320 will be more to your liking.

I had one for a loaner for about 5 days. It wa about in line with what I would expect performance to be from a wagon, but it felt about like my coupe with the s/c disconnected. I noticed that I had to plan lane changes, ramp exits, etc. a little earlier because the instant power at the higher speeds wasn't there like it is with the Coupe. On the bright side, the A/C kicked ***! And it didn't feel like it was zapping the power like it does from my 4-banger-very little difference with it on or off.

If you are thinking 6-speed manual then the power is fine, but a 4Matic is a real dog. The auto non-4Matic would depend on how you like to drive. Some people would say, "It's a real slug!" and others would say,"It has plenty of power."
Mercedes designed it to be a little underpowered so as to encourage customers to make the jump up to the C320.

Judging from the response I will go for test drive on the C240 before I make any decisions. I'm kind of a V8 guy and if it were this slow like my previous spare car the Infiniti G20 which I got rid of it and lost a lot of money because I just can't take the slowness anymore, I might have to get an C320 or find something else maybe an 325i wagon or A4 1.8T wagon which all fall within the same budge I have for spare.

2002 C320 Sport Wagon
The low-end gearing on the A4 3.0 gives it a quickness off the spot that the C320 lacks. However, with a little use of the auto transmission stick that can be compensated and there's no difference (or mebbe better on the C320?) at highway speeds.
