Saying goodbye
2006 SLK280.
The SLK is phenomenal. Good power and handling, and just so much fun with the top down. My C230 has been the most reliable car I have owned. Got rid of it with 151,000 miles after 9 1/2 years of ownership. I had a "ESP visit workshop" message for the last 2 months. The car ran fine. Other than that, the only repair other than maintenance was a thermostat replacement at about 120,000.
Funny thing. I feel that the 1.8 in the coupe idled smoother than the six in the SLK. Mileage has been only slightly below the coupe. On the highway I can get around 30mpg. In town around 22mpg. I'll stick my head in here on occasion.
Thanks for all the help in the past.

Great resource, great people. They really aren't into performance over there unless you drive an SLK55, but lots of great ideas for the exterior as well as lots of fun accessories.
Edit: it may have idled smoother, but it's got to be smoother through the rev range on the road!
This motor and chassis combination is brilliant.

At this point, I have a rear lip spoiler on order. The wheels were just put on a couple of days ago. Would love to do the AMG front fascia depending on cost. I would love to upgrade the brakes to the 6 piston ones, but these were just replaced 10,000 miles ago.

That you are right about. The motor and chassis are a great combination. The engine pulls strong through the gears ( 6 speed manual) and the chassis is rock solid. Funny thing, the car is almost more solid with the top down.
I have to say, it was hard saying goodbye to the C230. It treated me well over the years.

my neighbor has a slk350 in manual (its one rare slk that i'd like to take for a spin!)
when i get a chance to slip into my family's slk55, i always get giddy, but am not a fan of auto on sports cars... amg or non.
btw... if you dont mind me asking: how much did you get for your coupe? and did it have leather or any mods worth influencing the price (positively)?
thanks
