2002 Coupe-M111 water pump replacement
Looks like I have a slow coolant leak. Potentially looks like it is coming from the front of the block.
I searched but didn't see a DIY for the M111 engine. I don't imagine it to be too hard. Some questions I have,
Will I need a pulley puller?
Can I use rtv as a sealant, or is it essential to use the MB offering?
Does the alternator have to come out to? If so, I am likely to have it rebuilt while it is out.
Can anyone think of other PM tasks I should perform while I am at the front of the block?
John, Glyn, C230 Sport Coup or anyone else, when you guys have time, can you see if there are any procedure docs for this work? I appreciate it.

You never bought the DVD? Lame.
Dude....here it is from the W203 DvD.
According to this the pulley unbolts?
Pretty straightforward as I expected, from when I'd looked before.
Much easier than say the M112. You don't need to remove any extra stuff, just drain, take off belts and unbolt.
And it doesn't say anything about any sealant, just clean surface and replace gasket.
But a little RTV probably won't hurt anything.
So how many miles is this? 1st one? I'd been thinking about buying one and keeping it in the car,
just in case. Mine's still original.
RM has 'em for about 100 bucks.
I'd do the thermostat while yer in there.
I'd been planning to do both when I eventually replace the head gasket.
Which brings me to your 'slow coolant leak'.
Any white residue near the #4 cylinder?

M111 classic failure of head gasket at #4 results in slow coolant leak.

Pffft, buy a DVD? Mang, I got peeps, and peeps got me. I have actually planned to break down the whole cooling system. Go to straight water, do a flush with a Prestone product. Or alternatively, get the radiator preventativly rebuilt. Though I don't know if it can be rebuilt.
You know us high mileage guys. We open up the hood and find things to replace out of enthusiasm. Only thing is I'm currently layed up from a case of divertriculitis. I'm down 10 lbs in 5 days. No fun being on Flagyl and Cipro.

Dude...
do not consume alchohol.
Interaction with alcohol
Consuming ethanol (alcohol) while taking metronidazole has long been thought to have a disulfiram-like reaction with effects that can include nausea, vomiting, flushing of the skin, tachycardia (accelerated heart rate), and shortness of breath[17]. Typically a 2006 Medicines Handbook warns that consumption of alcohol should be avoided by patients during systemic metronidazole therapy and for at least 48 hours after completion of treatment.[3] However there are studies calling into question the interaction of alcohol and metronidazole,[18] and the mechanism of this reaction in the clinical setting has been questioned by some authors,[19][20] and a possible central toxic serotonin reaction for the alcohol intolerance suggested.[21]

I'll get through this one. Thanks for the well wishes.

You have my sympathy. Picked up amoebic dysentery in Pakistan in 1995. Flagyl either kills you or the parasite.
