Tinted Windows - Type of Tint?

I am going to have my c320 tinted. My car does not have a rear antenna so I'm thinking that the antenna is contained within the rear window? What is the type of tint I need so that it doesn't affect my radio signal. All help is appreciated.

For those that do have tint - what % did you go with? Any pictures would be nice, especially on silver c-classes.

I used johnson film all around

20% Tint is a nice deep shade that at night you cant see through

I think the only ones that interfere with the radio or phone setup is the ceramic tint or those containing metals.

im no pro though, just had a long talk with the shop that did my tint

I wouldent pay over 200

Thanks for the response ... I had 20 on my last car, which looked real nice. I have a quote for less than $200 and I think I'm going to go with 20 again although I was considering 35 but I think that is too light.

Less than $200? I couldn't find anyone to do it for less than $400. I wasn't looking too hard, though.

400 is steep, I could get 3 cars done from my shop for that price

Yeah 20 sounds perfect and from what I remember was perfect. I just get worried about inspections and heat from the police. I have not had any trouble from the Po9 since I moved to NC but don't want to draw unwanted pit stops due to the law. Do you have any pics you could post?

I've been quoted between $159-$220. The shop I'm thinking of going to gave me a quote of $180 with a lifetime warranty. This is next on my to-do list once I get some free time.

I used 30 all around which seems dark enough to me and is a mere 5% lower than my state law. That being said it hasn't been dark enough to draw any attention, but still looks good.

I'll have to dig out my paperwork as I can't recall the brand they used. Not a full sun shot, but gives you an idea. I've never had any problems with radio reception or my IR sensors.

This is Huper Optik 30% all around (The legal limit in my state).

Huper Optik is concidered by most, the best tint available. It is very expensive and difficult to install on curved surfaces as it is very thick. But, it is a nano-ceramic based tint, so no antenna interference and INCREDIBLE heat blocking properties. There are a few other tint films with similar performance, like 3M Crystalline, which I have on my Tiguan. I still prefer the Huper Optik over the 3M Crystalline.

Here is a shot of the 3M Crystalline on my Tiggy for comparison:

Realize the Benz is in the sun and the Tiguan a dark cloudy day. In reality the Tiguan overall tint is lighter and less reflective than the Benz.

Thank you very much for the pictures! Both cars look really good. I think the 30% doesn't look bad but I'm still tempted to go darker.

I hear you, it is tempting, but after having MANY cars tinted from as dark as 2 layers of 5% all the way up to as light as 40%, I think 30% is the optimal tint. Dark enough for looks and hiding, but absolutely no issues with night driving. I think that may be why that is typically the limit for most states.

Quit wishing you had tint and JUST DO IT. After having tinted cars, I can't live w/o it. That is why it is always the 1st mod of any car I buy. It is absolutely worth every penny, especially with the high performance films.

Prices around here seem double elsewhere, and I'd need moleskin.. and it's hard to justify when I'm running around on the original timing chain. Priorities priorities lol

Simple solution. Drive out here to the NW and I'll install your moleskin, replace your timing chain, and have my guy tint your Benz

Why would you need moleskin? I heard so the film doesn't scratch. I didn't run that by the tint shop but I've yet to make an appointment.

I have heard that with 20% it might be harder to see at night but I have no worries regarding this.

You ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY need moleskin. The inside wiper in the door panel that contacts the window is made of plastic. So, any little dirt particles that get between that and the tint WILL scratch your windows.

When I had my Huper Optik tint installed over 4 years ago, my tint guy said the tint would be fine even tough I knew better. He ended up re tinting ALL my roll-up windows a few months ago because they were HIGHLY scratched.

5% in NYC .. That is just crazy. I'm from right outside NYC and had 20% and was nervous. I'm surprised you don't get pulled over daily. My experience from NY is the reason why I'm worried to tint 20% again but 35% is just to light IMO.

You're right...but I just felt like everything else was too light.
I just wanted to go dark to try it out. It looks too sexy, I did get stopped almost everyday tho :/ . I started driving with the front window down. But you're right if anything, 20% is the best I guess. There's lil tricks to make your car darker or lighter like tinting the front windshield just a little or Having the sunroof open...

I use to drive with the front windows down as well at times. During winter it was horrible in NY, down south winters are much milder.
