This has been discussed a bunch of times...do a search before posting a new thread!
Stick to the Service A/B warnings on your dash. They should trigger every 15000km (or 12000mi on American cars)

Actually slight correction it is 13,000 mile intervals on the USA cars. I've stuck to that on my 134,500 mile M271-car.. Use M1 0W-40 like you said, you'll be fine. I've had my analyzed a few times and it is always good.

I changed the oil (Mobil 1) every 10-12k on our old BMW E28 M5 and things looked brand new inside when I replaced the timing chain at 170k. It burned the same amount of oil as when new also. And this was on an engine that was more highly tuned than our Mercs.

MB is back to Mobil1 5W40 but now it's Mobil1 ESP 5W40,... ESP stands for Emission System Protection (too much sulphur, ethenol and other additives in NorthAmerican gas)
BTW, Mobil 1 0W40 is the best quality Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil,.... better quality than Mobil 1 ESP 5W40.

Go to any Mercedes-Benz Stealership,...... Mobil 1 ESP 5W40 is what they're using for oil changes now. NOT Mobil 1 0W40

Glyn will chime in. 0w40 is recommended. 5w40 ESP isn't recommended. My stealer has putting it in my car but I don't think it's recommended. See Glyn's oil thread.

Come on guys, at least have some fun with an often asked question. I recommend changing the oil every 40K miles. Since the M271 timing chain stretches, the sludge will help it not slap the black and rattle. It'll also act as a good sticky substance to catch the pieces that fly everywhere when the engine grenades after the timing chain slips a tooth.
