this doesnt make sense

ever since i had the car (since new) the coolant temp always stayed at 80c then at idle it would rise to 87c...and my car seems faster

then of course i get the p0128 then i changed my thermostat with a wahel one

now the temp is constantly at like 89c and doesnt go lower or higher at all..but it seems the car is alot slower

anybody know thanks?

which thermostat is the one from the factory?

89 degrees is where the car should run.

Well it was not new. A P0128 means the car is taking too long to warm up and not reaching full operating temperature.

It's funny you bring this up.
During my rebuild I installed a new thermostat, and now my temp. seems like it's a lot more sensitive. It used to just get up to temp. and not move. Now it bounces around as I drive, and stop, etc...
It stays right around the 85-90 degree mark, but changes depending on what the car is doing.
Just thought it was odd that it acts more sensitive now.

No - The car is running at the correct temperature. Temperature is not your problem.

Listen to Glyn. I had a P0128, as well. It was in pending status for a while before the CEL appeared. During this time, the car ran at ~80C indicated on the gauge and gas mileage dropped by a good bit. I noticed no improved acceleration or power or anything of that sort.. actually, car didn't seem too happy about it.

I didn't flush my coolant during my change. As a matter of fact, aside from the top up at the thermostat change, my coolant is still factory fill at 134,700 miles. I plan to have it flushed by 150k.
