Hi all,
have a problem with the intake manifold. Here is Link of engine: http://www.mercedestechstore.com/pdf...2008-05-04.pdf on 31 Page you can see front of intake manifold. There are 2 Longitudinal switch flap shaft one of that is broken so and my car lose the acceleration. I can not buy it separately MB Dealer only sell it with Intake Manifold so it too expensive. So can someone tell me can I buy it separately anywhere ?
Thanks Garry From Gerogia, Tbilisi

This is a common problem on early M272 engines & Benz does not sell a repair kit. You need to buy the entire manifold. There is a long thread about the problem on the W209 forum. Your choices are new Benz, aftermarket manifold or a used one.
I don't know which rod has failed? Swirl flaps or manifold runner length. Your other option is to jam them in the position that you drive the most.

m272 intake manifold problems c300
you don't have to buy a new intake manifold if your linkage and flap are broken and Mercedes tells you to buy a new one for $1200.00 with Labor approx $2000.00 (that's CAD) a shop in Toronto called McNallys Auto has the repair kit and the whole thing runs about $800.00 forget the the Dealer

Yes ~ In SA we repair them as well. MBUSA will not allow dealers to repair them ~ hence no kit. In SA we just fabricate new parts.

Wife was headed to work today and check engine light came on. She got off the fwy to see what was wrong. When she slowed down the motor got rough until accelerating again. Nothing visible after opening the hood (checked the oil and saw no visible leaks) and when she started the car again the light was off. Drove directly to dealer and they say she needs a new intake manifold because flap valve is broken - $2,800. They said that it is very dangerous to drive at all because the loose metal inside could get into the cylinder and cause major damage - is he blowing smoke? They also said they did an electronic compression check and all cylinders read about the same which indicates that there is probably no damage at this time. Got them down to $2,500 (he said parts are almost $1,600) but that is still pretty steep. Does anyone have any idea if that price is higher than normal? The car has 125k miles and I would love to not have to put that much into it. Would this be a DIY project or should I leave it to the pros?
Any help or advice is appreciated,
Mike

Updates
I just picked up my car from the dealer cause I saw oil under on the transmission few days ago, and it turned out I have all these issues you all are having. Manifold flaps, which requires a replacement of the whole manifold ($2000) and the transmission speed sensor ($2200). besides other small things (Brakes and some other thing)
My questions are:
Has any of you actually tried the flap kit mentioned above (Found on Ebay for $108) instead of almost a $1000 for a new manifold?
Since these are such common problems, did anybody figure out ways around them?
I bought the car less than 6 months ago from a private party! It just 80K few days ago. Right now I have total of $4200 (Almost half what I paid for the car) on maintenance besides I need brakes (Rooters and pads)!
I am not sure what I want to do now.. A part of me wants to fix the car and a part of me wants to get rid of it!! Its a lot of money to spend on it right now and I will never get that money back

Installed Aluminum Replacement part
I bought the replacement part from eBay for under $100. Came with two intake manifold gaskets. This really should be an MB shop fix instead of them having you replace the entire intake manifold (quoted from dealer around $2000. Quoted from private MB only shop at $1800). My part was broken exactly like the picture in the attached PDF shows. The fix is easy enough - and removing the intake manifold is okay too. The hard part is all the other hoses, bolts, wires, etc. that have to come off to get the intake manifold. Search YouTube. There are some very good instructional videos on there for the installing the aluminum replacement part. They show the fix but not really the amount of work you will have to put in to remove and reinstall the intake manifold. I paid my mechanic $600 for the repair job. The aluminum part WORKS!

I had my flaps removed from the intake after it started to leak oil. Flap motors still work and the construction has been slightly modified so STAR does not give any errors.
Applies for CDI-engines. Same has been plaguing BMW diesels too... rubbish quality for both brands

I've been using a tumbler on my brothers car that I made out of a thermoplastic compound. I basically over tested it once I was happy with the shape and definition at temperatures much higher than exposed and it has held pretty well. Would anyone be interested in this piece say if it sold for $60 with lifetime warranty? It would be an American made product if it matters to anyone. I might be able to make some if the demand is there.

Tumble flap
Hi Glyn, do you perhaps know where I can go in Cape Town area to have this flap fabricated or fixed. I'm driving a C230 Coupe. The car is still driving, I just can't drive at high revs.

M272/273 Intake Manifold Replacement
My intake manifold also broke on my MB C230 2007 at 200 000km (125 000 miles). I got my manifold about 600 euros (OEM Pierburg part) and changed it by myself. I also made a complete walkthrough of the replacement job and people planning to do this as a diy project can check it out from here:
Part 1: Replacing MB M272 Intake Manifold Part 1 of 2 - YouTube
Part 2: Replacing MB M272 Intake Manifold Part 2 of 2 - YouTube
Problems were very rough idle, jerky transmission, misfires, check engine light again and again, poor mileage, bad performance.. you name it.
I am not a repair professional but I have little understanding about engines and I know basics how to hold tools. I was able to do the job succesfully and my car is now like it was on it's glory days couple of years ago. All the problems are now gone. I love to drive it again!
It might be that MB does not provide parts to the manifold because it becomes a complete wreck from inside, not just the outside levers fails..
