------------------------------------
Audio 10 to Comand 2.0 retrofit w203
------------------------------------
This is for a w203 2000-2004 PRE FACELIFT model

Before a start I will answer a few questions.
1. Why update to comand 2.0 isn't it old? Because it is OEM
2. Why not update to the Dynavin it has more functions? It is not OEM

Now that's out of the way lets get down to business

------------------------------------
A FEW THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
------------------------------------
- GPS antenna does not work under dash (tried it) almost no signal under there.
- Car phone D2B and/or CD stacker work perfectly from Audio 10 to Comand 2.0 unit
- Bluetooth via Viseeo works perfectly with the Comand 2.0 unit
- All steering wheel buttons work perfectly with Comand 2.0
- NAVI function on instrument cluster will have to be enabled by a Star Computer (Not needed for the Comand 2.0 to work perfectly, but nice to have directions appear on cluster while driving)
- TV button will not work unless you buy a Multimedia Adapter (tricks the Comand 2.0 in thinking there is a TV tuner)
- You do not need to plug in the Speed Sensor wire on the C2 connector. The Comand 2.0 will work fine without it on the w203 model.

------------------------------------
PARTS NEEDED
------------------------------------
1. C plug adapter to convert to the comand 2.0 C1 and C2 plug
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/260853265908

2. GPS antenna (about $10)
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/230802850631

3. The Comand 2.0 unit (Make sure you buy the right shape one)
EBAY price between $200 to $500

------------------------------------
OPTIONAL PARTS
------------------------------------
4. 3.5mm Socket for AUX (cost $1)

5. Old computer speaker cable to run from back of unit to AUX socket

------------------------------------
PREPARATION WORK FOR AUX
------------------------------------
1. Grab the C to C1 and C2 adapter and on the C2 plug (biggest one with 18 little pin holes)
2. Undo side of the casing (once side is off, the casing will just slip out)
3. Insert Red computer wire into PIN 4 (RIGHT SOUND)
4. Insert Green computer wire into PIN 13 (LEFT SOUND)
5. Also insert 2 ground wires (in my case White and Black wires) into PIN 5 and PIN 14 (GROUND)
NOTE: There is a notch out of the computer wires that works perfectly with the C2 connector casing. Sort of like a lock in channel (groove), hard to explain but you'll get it when you have it all in-front of you.
6. Put the C2 connector back together making sure all the wires you have connected stay in place.
7. Once the Comand 2.0 unit is in place, solder the appropriate wires to the socket (I don't recommend to solder socket to end of wires before installation as you don't know where you might need to push these wires through)

------------------------------------
PIN OUTS
------------------------------------

------------------------------------
INSTALLATION
not going to go into too much detail here there is a lot of info on this part on forums
------------------------------------
1. Park-brake on, car off
2. Remove wood panel around gear knob
3. move gear stick into drive (to make room to pull out ash tray) (use park break release flap) Lift up grate next to cig lighter release catch, release is in there.
4. pull out inner ash tray, undo 2 clips holding outer ash tray and remove it, unplug ashtray light.
5. remove two screws underneath where ash tray used to be. (also undo 2 clips holding wood backing plate)
6. MOVE TO TOP VENTS, Close top vents.
7. Remove top vent screws (they only unscrew they don't come out)
8. Push down on top vent grab clips and pull out vent, one side at a time.
9. Once vents are out don't unplug them just put them to the side on dash.
10. Whole wood-panel plate should now be loose.
11. Separate Heater/AC unit from wood-panel plate (do not unplug) and put to the side.
11. Leave Upper Control Panel (UCP) attached to wood-panel plate (do not unplug) put it up on the dash.
12. You now will have access to the Audio 10 unit, there will be 2 more screws to undo.
13. Pull out the Audio 10 unit, unplug all the wires and remove it.
14. Insert the Comand 2.0 unit making sure you plug in all the wires you unplugged. It will all be plug in and play as long as you bought the C to C1 and C2 adapter.
15. Make sure you plug in your GPS antenna amd your AUX cable is coming down behind the unit and out the bottom near the ash tray.
16. Start putting it all back together in reverse order.

Good luck with your own project. Tijn

Nice write up. Once I got used to mine, I like seeing it in the dash, although I use the aux much less than I thought I would. Probably because my drive is mostly in traffic and I listen to music and traffic reports.

Thanks

Great post. It took me all of 1 hour to add the Aux cable to my Comand 2.0. Thanks for this post.

UPDATE

------------------------------
MAKING YOUR TV BUTTON WORK
------------------------------

PROBLEM
- TV button will not work unless you buy a Multimedia Adapter (tricks the Comand 2.0 in thinking there is a TV tuner)

SOLUTION
- Buy a Multimedia Adapter

------------------------------------
A FEW THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
------------------------------------

- Multimedia Adapter does not add TV, it only adds the ability to add any RCA video source. This includes but is not limited to a DVD player, Reverse Cam, TV, Computer...

------------------------------------
PARTS NEEDED
------------------------------------
1. Mercedes Multimedia Adapter Comand 2.0 Video TV Free
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/370680164305
COST $99.99 euro, does go on sale for $79.99 euro every 10 days or so.

2. Any RCA Video source (TV turner, Phone with Video out, any device with video out)

------------------------------------
OPTIONAL PARTS
------------------------------------

3. Three Pin Female RCA Socket

4. Three Pin RCA cable to go from glove box to center console

------------------------------------
INSTALLATION

This can be difficult so please look on forum for full details on this.

12. You now will have access to the Comand 2.0 unit, there will be 2 more screws to undo.

13. Pull out the Comand 2.0 unit, unplug all the wires and remove it.

14. The Multimedia Adapter comes with its own C1 and C2 plugs, so you will need to transfer any wires from your old C1 and C2 Adapters to the new ones (KEEPING TO THE SAME PIN NUMBERS OF COURSE)

15. The Multimedia Adapter only needs 2 other wires plugged in, RED (12v) and BROWN (GROUND). I tapped into the Cigarette Lighter wires for this. YELLOW/BLACK wire was (12v)
BROWN was (GROUND)
(please check your own wires do not take my word for it)

16. Plug in your Multimedia Adapter and I placed it behind the comand 2.0 unit close to the glove box and threaded the RCA wires into the glove box for easy access. While I was there I also ran a RCA cable from the glove box to the Center console.

17. Insert the Comand 2.0 unit making sure you plug in all the wires you unplugged. It will all be plug in and play.

18. Start putting it all back together in reverse order.

NOTE: Remember your Multimedia Adapter will only turn on when the car is in Second Accessory Position, Comand 2.0 turns on at first Accessory Position.
----------------------
RESULT
----------------------

Goodluck all, and enjoy.

I installed the adapter and everything is working fine with my retrofitted COMAND. Only question I had was there are two loose wires that came with my adapter a blue wire and a yellow wire. Just curious if anyone knows what those are there for? Here’s some photos
