1998 Silver C43
drove a C240 for the last 8 days

Hey guys,

I've owned a 1998 C43 AMG since Mar 03, and recently took it in for some warranty work. I was given a white C240 as a loaner until my car was ready. I must say I am very impressed with the C240.

I have received many compliments on it from strangers, I have enjoyed the preformance and handling, and the style and comforts are beyind what I expected. The only thing I have an issue with was the non fully power seat, whats up with not being power to slide forward and back? Overall very pleased. If I hadn't picked up my C43, I'd definetly look into a C320 or C32 AMG.

OH and trhe stereo system kicks a$$, much better than mine. Nice solid bass

2002 C240 6-spd (ret)
The full power seats are an option on the C240 (standard on C320). Since my wife doesn't drive my car (6-spd!), I decided I didn't need them -- at least there's the power height and recline adjustment. Sometimes I do wish I had it for the power steering wheel adjustment and "exit" features. BTW, before I decided, I tried the fore-and-aft adjustment and found it had closer intervals than most other seats so I wouldn't have the problem of one notch too far and the next too close.

2002 C240 6 spd manual
I enjoy the performance and handling of mine as well (handling more so after changing to AMG Sway Bars). The 2.6L V6 is better suited to the 6 spd manual in my opinion. I could stand a little more power, but then again who couldn't? I have the semi-electric seats, and don't particularly miss the electric controls. Then again, I'm the only driver. I also figure the less electrical equipment that can break after warranty! The stock stereo is pretty bad in my opinion. But improves drastically by changing it to an Audio 10.

Just picked up my AMG, happy to have it back.

The power was definetly alright. I was able to drive it to Los Angeles from San Jose just this past weekend and hit a top sped of 130 on I5 before running out of road. Car handles great at that speed. No worries

So what was being done to your C 43?

Eight days is a LOOOONG time for a warranty repair.

I assume that you have the extended warranty, as that car is getting long in the tooth, no?

got a white one with java interior (eww) when we send my sister's car in for service. This white one w/ 5k miles somehow feels more powerful than the Silver one we got last time. The C240's suspension is definitely more comfortable that's for sure. Once you hit freeway speed it's pretty easy to pass someone, but off the line and initial accelerating onto the freeway are pain in the A$$.

The java interior IMO doesn't do well with a small car like the C.

Just curious -- why is your "name" 99SlvrC43 when you say you have a 98?

Fast Cars!
MY CLK430 is in for its service A and i got a C240 loner. Its a nice car. Very comfortable. But i do not like how it does not have full leather, and only has some power functions for the seats. One thing i love about the car which i dont have with any of mine is how smooth and quiet it is. Its amazing how much louder low profile tires sound and feel. I feeling nothing over small bumps and its very quiet during normal and highway driving. One thing i do hate is excelerating into traffic, i hate the sound and delay of it when it struggles to pick up speed. Overall if your not into a sporty feel or performance its a great car for comfort.

Very Impressed! Thats exactly the case. I was looking for a 99 but saw this 98 and could not pass up the great deal.

Eight days is a LOOOONG time for a warranty repair.
I had the following done under starmarked warranty:
phone mounting braket in trunk was loose and falling off: replaced
CD changer was gettign stuck: cleaned
Oil leak from manifold area: some electrical connector on transmission leaking on exhaust tube. Correcter/replaced
cars transmission shifts in neutral on acceleration: problem not duplicated nothing done.
ESP to sensetive, engages over manholes and potholes: problem not duplicated nothing done.
A/C heater lights and fan speed malfunctions: prolems corrected.
Cup holder wont stay down: they did nothing about it, was not replaced.
Two front head rest are loose and adjustment is not possible: Found broken piece inside headrest, entire headrest replaced, but only drivers and not passanger.
