About to put ALOT of miles on... m271 or m111?
So today I got a promotion at my work which is going to require me to be driving around A LOT, I am talking hundreds of miles a day. They do require me to take my car (they reimburse for gas obviously). Now I am trying to decided which would make more sense, driving my 2005 c230 sedan or 2002 c230 coupe. The sedan is at 71k right now and the coupe at 95k. Which would you guys recommend?
sedan of course, good on gas the the chair is more comfy
coupe... PSS9 make it stupid bumpy, and if seriously 100 miles a day, they should give u a company car
ever since i got my Accord coupe i stop driving the benz, cheap on gas and HELLA comfy and don't give a damn about any rock chips

Yeah, what more comfortable? I've got 183K miles on mine with no problem but eating tires. ( hopefully I've fixed that with getting a non staggered setup. ) my car still get around 35 mpg too. Enjoy driving, I know I do!

I agree with the arguments above. The only thing I should mention is that the M111 engine is tough & will do a higher mileage trouble free.

Gawd, that many miles, are you getting as car allowance?
I'd get something for work that you can beat up and not worry about.
Hundred of miles per DAY?
It pissed me off the way companies now are so tight with company cars,
that way it's not their responsibility to maintain it, and everything including the time spent at the dealers and repair shops is on your dime. Arrgh.
I've been lamenting the 'good ol days' lately, it's part of what being an American was so great. Good jobs, wages, working conditions, benefits.
Pretty soon we'll all be eating rice for our 15 minute lunch and working for 10 cents an hour.
Where do I sign up?
How about Geely like in Kira's pic?
Check the crash tests on the Chinese cars...well they own Volvo now, so it won't be long before the figure
out the safety stuff.
My vote is neither. You'll be dealing with constant maint. and we all know it's expensive.
But yeah, M111 can take it more, THOUGH, there's some high mileage 271's around here, that seem almost immune to the problems, maybe all that highway driving keeps things running smoothly.

Get a used Honda, and start making money on your reimbursement, instead of having to constantly fix a Benz with that many miles. I wouldn't want to use either car for that many miles daily.

I'd drive the sedan.
141k on my 2005. I'd love to have a job that required me to drive it hundreds of miles per day just because I'd like to see how far it can go. I loan it out to people to drive it more. Last week I loaned it to someone the whole week. Today Marco has it in south Georgia. I enjoy seeing the miles add up for some reason.

Handles great, with the same size at all four corners. I put Michilen primacy MXM4's, and I am very happy with them. I really love the way big wheels look but I have to have a comfy ride and get some longevity too.

Well I was thinking about just buying a really cheep honda or something and using that to put all the miles on but today they sent out a letter that they might start laying off people so I don't want to buy another car just because of this job right now. In the mean time I have been driving the sedan mostly because the coupe has been in the garage all opening up because of a little project I am doing on it currently. I most likely will alternate between the two though.
It makes no sense to me to buy a car and then buy another one to drive. What is a car for, anyway? If I felt like I had to buy another car because my C230 couldn't handle the miles I wanted or needed to put on it, I'd sell it so fast its ESP wouldn't have been able to see it coming.
I'm not spending as much money as it costs to buy and maintain a Mercedes or anything else like that only to spend most of my driving time in some cheap Honda. It's like buying a Tempurpedic mattress for $2,000 then sleeping on the floor because you don't want to wear it out. Or buying expensive shoes but wearing flip-flops because you are afraid you'll get them dirty.
Cars have 1 purpose only.

I'm currently at 126,900 something and counting on my 05 C230 and it's my ONLY car so it goes EVERYWHERE. Work, school, home, store, downtown, across the country, etc.
I would've taken it to Chicago last week, but was REALLY GLAD I didnt due to the big city life of narrow streets that have cars parked on both sides along with the fact that parking pretty much doesnt exist. Some of those streets are so narrow that if you have 2 cars on the same street heading opposite directions eventually they'll have to slowly squeeze by just to get through which would put my vehicle at risk for damage.

Peydidy, I'd drive the sedan. My previous vehicle was a 2 door coupe and I switched to sedan and i enjoy the extra space even if it doesnt get used. I saved up for a long time for my 05 and I'm definitely going to get my moneys worth out of it. Run it til it's dead!

That so totally sucks. All those miles, no car allowance, no company car.
What crap.
Get an old Mercedes diesel or a VW rabbit diesel...ha.
Or a Geo Metro.
New Jetta TDI gets 50 mpg.
Get the ugliest, oldest, most beat up piece of crap you can find
and tell the clients it's all you can afford since they don't pay you enough.

HA, 4500 for that POS honda???

Pey,
Be sure to keep track of your ACTUAL vehicle expenses, and if you are on W2, you can claim it as an unreimbursed employee expense.
