Didn't see any Coupes in F&F...
I rented "The Fast and the Furious" this weekend... A few observations:
1) How many times can they remake "The Wild Bunch?"
2) You want neat car chase scenes, rent Steve McQueen's "Bullitt" instead
3) Excepting the one tricked-out VW, I didn't see any European iron getting subjected to the rocket racer mods, no BMWs, MBs, others.
4) How can I get back 107 minutes of my life?
It was interesting as a car movie, but I was looking for any redeeming qualities, and found it generally lacking for all concerned. Let's see, Vin Diesel's cool character actually masks a felony truck hijacking ring, even the ADD character is involved... (no heroes here). I was pleased to see the "other" gang was NOT the stereotypical trunk hijacking ring, but wait, they DO collect on bad pink-slip debts with drive-bys using fully-automatic weapons... (so no joy there). Even the "good guy" corrupts himself in the end, in the name of cool-car-ness worship? (Duh?)
Yea, this movie was not meant for my demographic, but I claim kudos for keeping an open mind to take a look. This was a beter flick than Stallone's "Driven" last year... barely. But, they're all sooooo shallow....

Mod people want to get the highest performance to money ratio and it is a lot cheaper to mod a Honda, Toyota Mitsubishi etc. than BMW, MB, VW etc.
It was a total rehash of several movies. I though it was most like Point Break. They just changed surfboads for Mod cars.

Well, glad to see I'm not totally in left field, as several of you agree. For a while I thought I would get severely slammed with this thread!
Back in the sixty's, I recall a family in the neighborhood with two youngsters into the street racer scene. They built a lime-green VW Beetle with a small block chevy V8 where the rear seat used to be. Not your typical Beetle (but it WAS a euro-rod).

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
There are some funny parts of the movie, such as needing two bottles of nitrous, reading the laptop while driving a 5-mile quarter mile, and having a blown engine but being able to drive it away anyways. Which is weird, since RJ de Vera from Super Street was the tech advisor. I'll have to read the "making of..." portion of the dvd to look for excuses.
My summary: too much cheese, too little Michell Rodriguez. :p Maybe you older types just can't relate!
Did Autoadditions give you a guess on when the Manayunk store was going to open?

And yes, those "Under 10-second" 1/4 mile races seemed to last forever. And yes, that "blown" engine worked pretty well after the race. I was waiting for him to drive it again after the Tran gang riddled it with machine-gun fire...
And yes, you caught my dyslexic keyboard entry. I'm entitled to some typos now and then, right?
(BTW, the DVD I rented had only one disc in it. Was there supposed to be two discs? I read somewhere that there was 7-hrs of DVD material, but I didn't see how that could be with only one disc.)

I didn't expect anything from the movie except modded cars, races, and chases. It was great in all those aspects, so I enjoyed the movie.
I look forward to F&F2 for the same reasons. Hopefully they won't throw in any MBs... wouldn't want to start an MB modding craze.

Sure it's silly--it's entertainment!!
You know what would be cool as a "reality" TV show? A modern day "Cannonball Run." For real!
