PROD Problem in Radio

Alright,

So I've searched and read almost every thread on this common PROD problem. I have all the symptoms. I turn my car on, my radio turns on (but no sound comes out of the speakers) and then PROD comes across the screen. So after a week of not having a radio, i took it to a car audio place. They told me that they checked every connection, battery, amp everything and it all seemed good. They then told me that I need to get the code for the radio at the dealership and i'd be good to go.

Got the code. But how to type it in? Tried everything, finally went to a local mechanic who knows a good amount about this sort of thing. He says it's not an "lock" code for the stereo, it's a problem with the stereo.

Read everything on MBWorld and there really isn't a clear answer as to what the problem is. Here's my question,

If I go to crutchfield and buy a receiver like http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KWAV...0.html?tp=5684

is that going to fix my problem, or am i simply going to have a great looking stereo that isn't ever going to work.

Thanks

THE C350
I had this issue at one point and fixed it by resetting the fuse on the back of the radio.

There's a thread on how to remove the radio in the diy thread. There's a fuse on back, remove and install new one just like in the fuse box.

Did you take it to a stealer? I wouldn't be so quick to say it's finished. Maybe a second opinion is called for. It sounds a little suspicious when somebody is complaining about a radio and a shop says you need a new tranny and rear brakes (unless there's something you haven't told us)!

Whatever it is, good luck with it!
