Naw, tommy is an accountant, so he just subtracts 20 lbs from the actual weight.

Hugging Wheel: (284 lbs - 20 lbs) = 264 lbs
Just Tommy: (240 lbs - 20 lbs) = 220 lbs
Difference (Wt of Wheel) = 44 lbs

I feel a whoopin coming on... hehehe

But the seach engine won't take a 2-letter term like c7. It tells you that it is too short.

This is one of the reasons why we need an index.

But tommy... I wouldn't tease ya if I didn't like ya! Besides, I'm just trying to catch up with you...

nov0798, thanks for the wheel only measurement. We've been talking about this topic for a year now, and you're the first to provide an objective measurement (just the wheel). Thanks to both you and tommy for taking this subject seriously.

Now, if we only knew what that standard coupe wheel weighed?

I've been told you gain up to 1 hp for each pound you take off the drive wheel. You can realistally gain 5 hp at the wheel by using 17" BBS RK wheels instead of C7

It would be really nice to know what the AMG wheels weigh?

Probably not significantly lighter, if at all.

You do give up wheel strength on the ultra-light wheels. I know two people who've broken rims on track model 350 Zs with the Volk Racing wheels. They are rebadged TE-37's I believe.

Bob, violence is not the answer!

As far as wheels, if both are made by the same process, then yes, the heavier one will usually be stronger. But I'd bet that many of the leightweight forged rims are at least as strong as our OEM rims.

Those Volks are forged I believe and something like a $7000 dealer option pkg. I'm told they are based on TE-37 but specifically made for the 350z. I'm glad to know the C7s are 24lbs a peice b/c the 17x8s I have on right now are 19lbs a piece.

Luke, Tire Rack Guru-

Which of the top three ulta performance tires weighs the least:
1.)S-03 Pole Position
2.)Pilot Sport
3.)AVS Sport
4.)P-Zero Rosso

I have the C7 wheels and Pilot Sport tires in basically a plus 1 situation. The C7 wheels apparently weigh 24 pounds each. Just a guess, say the Pilots weigh 24 poungs each.

Now if I want to go to Plus 2 group 18 inch tires and wheels.
Many of the forged wheels are 18-19 pounds in size 18 x 8.5. Many of the non forged wheels of this size weigh 30 pounds!
Now say the S-03 weighed 22 pounds in 225/40-18 inch while the Pilots weighed 25 pounds in the same size.

Just by going to forged wheels and lighter ultra performance tires, each wheel came in at 40 pounds vs. 55 pounds for non forged wheels and Pilots!
Any of the C class would feel faster with the forged wheels while sluggish with the non forged wheels.

What really gets me is Tire Rack knows the rim weights and probably the tire weights. I have an add in Grassroots Motorsports from Tire Rack that lists the rim weights.

Luke has some nice Stickys like "Tires ...which ones are the best ????

If you want less hassel and more sales, give us some information we can use, new Sticky " Tire and wheel weights" Just the standard MB size tires and rims like the AMG/BBS forged etc.
This would be a great service, and I really do not know why the inform is not on the Tire Racks web site. Why not?

If you want an answer, you need to post this in the tire forum.

I originally posted this question in the tire forum last week and after a bunch of views and no response I posted it here and within a few min boom.. help as always.

Thanks for all the responses. I've been thinking about getting new wheels but didn't what to get some whales that would make the car even heavier.

Sorry for the confusion, but I was responding to the previous post by breastroker. I should have addressed him by name.
