Did you get your Mercedes-Benz C-Class with automatic transmission or manual transmission? Why?

kain,
What do you think of these Palm Islands of the shores of Dubai?
What is the local feeling about them, and what is the info from Dubai?
I have Auto.

I have auto, but only for the convience and the fact that no one else besides me in the family knows how to drive stick. (Otherwise, I'd take a stick and my gears anyday!)

It seems that Mercedes-Benz makes some of the best automatic transmissions.

I have a 6-speed, I like it. I bought stick because my previous car was an autobox and I missed the control.
As for the BMW/Benz stick issue, I like the shift of my C7 better than my friend's 330i. I'm sure it'd be a different story if he had a short shift kit though.

Auto. I have to deal with heavy traffic every morning, bumper to bumper. Benz makes one of the best automatic and soon the first 7-speed.

auto... when i test drove the stick, i didn't really like how it felt and i figured it wasn't worth the trouble since the car doesn't make that much hp for me to make use of anyways... maybe i'm just used to japanese cars but the clutch felt really strange to me, like it came out at a different angle from the rest of the pedals or something.

Not even in the same league as Honda mannies, but the alternative is too emasculating. And the ccoupe's engine (at least in the "lower" version) needs a manny to give it any semblance of acceleration.

2002 C240 6 spd manual
I have a manual and love it......don't have to worry about how do I reset the adaptive transmission to a more agressive style mumbo jumbo, just shift the gears when you want!!! Plus who doesn't like better acceleration and better gas mileage?

I got the auto because of the amount of driving I do in stop/go traffic. It also allows me to drive, talk on the cell phone, and eat a burger at the same time (no, not really).
The auto is very nice. It is smooth shifting, and typically finds the desired gear properly - especially if driven at 7/10ths or less. However, it is still possible to catch the tranny with its pants around its ankles . . .
There is a series of corners on my trip from the office, 3 x 90 degree turns, connected by straights of about 20-30 yards. After you make the first turn, the tranny will go from 1st to second as you lift for the second turn. At this point (turn-in 2nd corner), if you nail the throttle (to get to the third turn), the tranny simply sits there, and the car almost coasts through the 2nd and 3rd corners, until reaching the straight - at which point it hammers back into 1st, and screams out of the corner (albeit a day late and a dollar short). It's rather disconcerting to be coasting for about 40-50 yards while your foot is planted on the carpet.
If little things like this annoy you, I would recommend getting the manual.
If you don't drive hard enough to notice things like this, the auto is very nice. Maybe the nicest out there. But it still isn't a manual.

Manual is the only way to go in a sporty car. If it was a sedan then most likely the Auto, but a two door coupe should have a manual. The shifting is excellant in mine. The wife even learned to drive stick on the car and now I can't get her out of the drivers seat. She even kicks off the ESP and slides around corners. I have created a montser out of a once conservative driver.

Auto here for the ease of use, as you get older shifting becomes less and less important and ease of use becomes more and more important.

O'yea, 6 speed for me and will be waiting 4 months for it. The only auto (for fun) I liked was my old '66 Chevy II Super Sport with a shift kit. Had to shift it manually and when it went into gear it hit hard - no aggravating 1/2 second delay.
Hey TXTiger - '66 Datsun Roadster here. Lots of old buds with B's. First car was to be a B, but fell in love with a black '68 Roadster and never looked back. Now, that B' with a Buick aluminum V8 ......

Hey 66 Roadster - I have a 68 MGB, Olde English White, with the 4 banger though.....it's still so much fun to drive. I'd settle for an MGC with the inline 6......

AAhhh the C. We had one at the shop years ago - nice! There is nothing like driving an old rag top! They are soo much fun to slide around corners Have fun in your B TX.
I WAS going to take the Roadster out tonight, but it is raining. Finally figured out why it would not run right. The wire to the points inside the distributor was broken. The fun of old cars!
Sorry for getting off topic. Get a manual

"shifting and drifting" is kinda hard in an auto.
