C240 AC dead and loud clicking noise-video added
2004 c240 with 80k miles. Today I hear a loud clicking noise from the engine, driver side near belt pulley tensioner. The noise sounds like a diesel engine. Clicking gets faster with engine speed. At certain speeds the noise stops. Air conditioner also blows warm air only. No error codes. Tensioner pulley probably needs to be replaced because it was squeaking a bit a few days ago.
Any ideas? AC was working fine yesterday. Noise and AC problem started the same day.

If this is a USA car i.e. Left Hand Drive.
Get an aircon shop to check refrigerant pressure. Your compressor might be on the way out & making a noise.

The purge valves can get very noisy on these engines. Listen carefully. Replacement is the only fix.

took the serp belt off and the noise stopped. looked in the engine area and saw a metal disk that looks like it came from the AC compressor. put it back on spun the AC pulley and the noise is definitely from there.
is the pulley the same as the AC clutch and is it a one piece deal with these compressors?
so basically the compressor is dead? and i need a new one?
any DIY posts on this?

OK - With Poly V belt off you know the problem. This is a swash plate compressor ~ no clutch. You need a new or recon compressor assembly.
