Bad fuel pump & fuel tank
Hi,
I have not posted much here, but I thought I would share an odd thing that happened to our 2007 C230.
My wife drove it about 10 - 15 miles after the low fuel light went on & parked it over night. There were no problems or lights on. The next morning, it would just turn over & not start. It was towed to the dealer, & they diagnosed the fuel pump dead.
Five hundred plus $$ later, we drive it home (after having a 2012 CLK loaner - nice, but not a car). As soon as we got out of the car at home we smelled fuel near the rear of the car. We waited until morning - smell still there.
We took it back. After most of the day, they say it was a bad seal at the tank sending unit opening. They replaced it twice, still had the smell. They thought it was a bad batch of seals. After the weekend (this time with a 2012 C300 loaner - nice), they call & tell me it is the fuel TANK! Apparently, it is deformed right at the neck were the seal sits. Probably like this from the factory, but when the seal was removed to do the repair, it would not accept the seal properly.
Mercedes is covering the costs, so I have no idea what it would be.
I just thought this was odd, & interesting.
Carry on...

Thanks for the input.
There is no such thing as a 2012 CLK. Was it a C Class Coupe or an E Class Coupe with is the CLK replacement.

Had the same problem with mine. Why did MB pay for yours? Was there a recall (silent or otherwise) on this?
Had an Indy shop replace the fuel pumps which are underneath the back seats. Smelled like gas for a few days afterwards. Cost about $600.
Has been fine ever since (2 years, 24K miles).
