2 malfunctions
2 malfunctions
yesterday when I took the key out of the ignition, i heard a beep and looked at the display on the dash and it said 2 malfunctions. when i put the key back in and then took it out again, no message. How do you check to see what the malfunctions were? I know someone is going to probably say RTFM, but that confuses me even more. any help would be appreciated.
thanks
thanks
I get the periodic ESP and BAS malfunctions. They've always gone away after a reboot, that's probably what happened to you. Our cars aren't the most electrically robust unfortunately- at least mine isn't.
Yep, my sunroof did some weird stuff for a couple of minutes
Like the one-touch close/open did not work for a while. Even when I kept it pressed the sunroof just moved an inch or so and then stopped. After a couple of minutes of driving it started working ok again. WTH is that all about?

I've had the auto down driver window go about 3/4's of the way down, stop, then rebound up an inch or so. That on top of my driver window simply refusing any input for about a week and half, then suddenly come back to life and work fine. Its kind of annoying (WTF) on one hand not being able to down your window yet somehow entertaining on the other (I think my car may be possessed.)

There is a service bulletin out for this error, it says to replace a rear axl speed sensor.
The true genius mechanic at my local dealership told me the service bulletin is wrong, that it's a short in a lead to the speed sensor. He repaired the short and told me that he would rather not replace the factory sensor if it's not truly broken.
To date, this is the only warranty service item that I've taken my C230K in for in it's 35,500 miles and 378 days. Does that make my specific car as reliable as a Lexus?
chrissy, if it's really a problem, you'll see it again. If you don't ever see it again then don't worry about it.
I doubt it's BAS/ESP, since one of the malfunctions was washer fluid. Are you sure the other one wasn't low fuel?

At least twice a day my car beeps at me for doing that and I curse back at the car. It's a viscious circle....

My guess would be that the other error would be the door is open and the key is still in the ignition.

Any malfunctions are stored in the car's computer and can still be read out at the dealer (according to my service rep).
I experienced the BAS/ESP error message after spinning my wheels in snow. There is a procedure for resetting this; I think it was: Turn steering wheel all the way left then all the way right and turn off car and wait 30 secs. Was told if this doesn't stop that error message from reoccuring then it's probably a bad sensor.

If the battery is disconnected, how can that procedure reset anything in the absence of power?

The second malfunction is probably the coolant level. I had this happen on my '02 and had the ESP/BAS too. if it keeps happening, take your car in and have the wiring harness replaced for the coolant/washer fluid. They are on the same sensor circuit.
While you are in there, tell them you are getting the ESP/BAS errors too (even though you are not). They will replace that wiring harness too...

My parents still loathe the memory of that car
