Trunk won't open...Please help

Hi guys,
I'm new here and have a 2001 C320. Today I went to the local tennis courts, and was leaving when the electronic key wouldn't open the trunk. When I got there an hour earlier, it was working fine. I could hear the motor(?) trying to open it, but it wouldn't release. I tried with the metal key, but that didn't do it either... I have searched through previous threads, but haven't seen any with the same issue.
Thanks,
Bill

have you tried the trunk button on the driver door? or just hit the unlock button on the car and just pull on the release handle on the trunk really hard.

Thanks, I tried both ways, but neither worked. I eventually got it to open with the metal key, but had to turn it hard until I heard a click. Any idea what the problem is?

its clear of any obstructions i'm assuming? check the actual lock mechanism on the trunk and the bumper. Try using the key when you have it open

Thanks, no obstructions. Have to look more closely at the lock mechanism tomorrow. Am already going to mechanic this week, so will probably have them check it out.

When you press the truck button on the key, do you hear a click where its trying to activate the trunk?

Try resetting the emergency release inside the trunk. That's another possibility.

Thanks, yes, I tried that and it sounded like it was trying to release it, but nothing happened...

I had the same problem before. Use the metal key to open the trunk: insert the key into the trunk keyhole, turn it counter clockwise and pull on the trunk handle to open the trunk. After you get the trunk open, spray lithium grease on the trunk latch. I haven't had any problems since.

Thanks, will definitely give it a try. Took it to my mechanic for wheel balance, and he seems to think it's an actuator.
