It is very rare that an auto racer who retires comes back and drives competitively again. Mark Donahue couldn't do it and now Michael Schumacher "reproves" this.

I don't know...Kimi is looking strong. Granted he didn't fully retire, just drove rally cars and trucks in between partying...from what I've heard.

There's more stuff in the racing section.

I should have reminded us that Donahue was killed in his second career. As I remember, there was at least one other who was brought up around the time when Donahue started racing again who died when he unretired. Thankfully, the cars and tracks are a lot safer now. The theory about this is that once you stop competing and change your mindset to retirement, it is very difficult to get it back. In spite of everything, there seems to be a missing ingredient - possibly the reason for retiring in the first place. For this reason Kimi doesn't really fit the race-retire-race again pattern if he's been racing other venues. I might admit that this is all bench racing analysis and I haven't kept up with racing like I used to but it seems to be a pattern.

I was hoping that Shumacher would do well, but I wasn't that surprised when he didn't.
