C180k air mass filter. After market?

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone knows why there seems to be no after market MAF's for the c180k.
OR..
How much should I expect to pay retail and where is the best place to pick one up?
Or...
Is it worth looking second hand?

Thanks in advance.

Adam

Rm is a bust

I'll try the other. No one seems to have 180k parts!

Either there is no market for them as they seldom break OR Siemens-VDO have somehow legally protected the design so no one can make them.

I checked all the usual german places, and the OEM one is all that is available. If there was one, teiledirekt.de, maf-shop.com or te-taxiteile would surely have it in stock, since M271 is one of the most common engine options.

How do you know yours is broken? It is not as common a problem as on the M111 and other Motronic engines.

I was led to believe it's a 'consumable' part. My car went into limp mode on the highway a few months back. I had my mechanic look at it. It was his summation of the problem. How much are they anyway, do you know?

List price from european stealerships is around 400 EUR or about 520 USD.

No, it is not a consumable part. You can do some measurements with a voltmeter before shelling out:
Output on the brown wire from MAF, nr3 pin is as follows:
0g/s = 0 Volts (ignition on, engine stopped)
3g/s = 0.5 V (warm idle, lights and AC off)
5g/s = 0,9 V (warm idle, AC+fan on 6, high+low beam lights)

If you have an obd2 reader, you can do measurements under various other loads, observing how the MAF grams/second figure follow the RPM and MAP figures

Thanks so much. I've been quoted about 600 (Aus) fitted, so I guess that's pretty good, though I can do it myself perfectly well. Might have to go buy a voltmeter. Would you think a second hand MAF is a bad idea?

A (verified, working, clean) second hand MAF is fine.

Sorry mate, have no idea. Can't find any 2:nd hand units (In sweden), perhaps they are a sought after item?

EDIT: found some in Germany, on ebay - they're 99EUR a piece it seems.

No idea. I did read somewhere that giving them a clean in electronics fluid works really well. Going to give that a shot first I think.

MAF removal

OK. I've the spray and a multimeter. I've removed the two screw on the top of the MAS and can't seem to get any further. It's loose but clearly not about to let go. Help!

Naturally, you would measure the signal from the MAF before removing it from the car...

That said: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...placement.html

It's not a 5 minute job like on M11x

THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANKYOU!!

THAT THREAD IS A LIFESAVER. I will of course check the readings, yes, but figured I'd clean it first. Odd decision. I was thinking it came out super easy. discovered quickly as per thread, alcohol and time required.

So appreciative
