Do we lube or grease the transmission fluid seals?
Getting ready to do the transmission service, and there are a number of seals involved that I would like to know if they should be pre-lubed or not:
Should I coat these with a film of tranny oil, silicone grease, or leave them dry when I install?
When I changed engine oil I coated the three O-rings on the oil filter housing with engine oil, which was recommended by more than one DIY.
On my son's Honda I have used silicone grease for things such as vtec solenoid gasket and distributor O-ring (both bolt to the cylinder head).
What is suggested for the various seals and gaskets involved in a transmission service?
- filter rubber O-ring
- electrical plug adapter O-rings
- cooling line to radiator fitting O-rings
- gear shift lever seal (inside in which shaft rotates)
- pan gasket

I'm far from an expert, but have done all of the work mentioned above. I do lube the oil ring sealant with motor oil.
The trans seals to include o rings at the rad, and electrical connections and pan gasket, I didn't coat with anything. Never had a leak after buttoning it up.
