Check Coolant Level and Car leak

Hello everyone. I am new on this site. I keep getting the Check Coolant Level message on my 2002 C320. It comes on in the morning right when i start my car and goes away when i start my car again, after driving around for a little while. I tried filling up the windshield water fluid to the top, but still no luck (some people have tried this and the coolant msg goes away). Just recently i've noticed something leaking on my driveway, same spot where i park my car. I took it to a mechanic and he said that there's transmission fluid leaking from the transmission pan area and he will need to change the gasket and get some transmission fluid from MB. He also put some coolant in the car aswell. Then i asked him what if the coolant light comes up again, he said it would likely mean that the car would need a new Coolant sensor. I don't know much about cars. It looks like he thinks that the leaking and Coolant message are two different problems. What do you guys think? Can the car be leaking some coolant instead? Tranmission fluid and Coolant fluid, both might be leaking, maybe?

Are you filling the windshield washer fluid or the radiator fluid? Check coolant level is the radiator fluid level. Now if it says check washer level then its the windshield washer.

I filled the windshield fluid to the top. I've read somewhere that the coolant and washer fluid sensors are on the same circuit. I was thinking maybe that was the problem, but still the coolant light comes on.

Two separate sensors. I've had the washer fluid go low and it'll show the washer fluid low on the dash and the coolant low warning on the dash will say low. Locate your coolant reservoir and see if it's at the proper level.

Same sensor on pre-facelift cars, I think, Phil. I had both come on and had to have the sensor replaced.

The mechanic added some coolant yesterday, he just filled it up a little. He said it looked like it needed a bit. This morning i started my car and the Check Coolant level light was gone? Should i still worry about the coolant level issue? The leaking is still there which the mechanic says is coming from the transmission pan area, i made him look at it one more time this morning..no major dripping just some oil on the screw/nuts or gasket(sorry don't much about cars) and the transmission pan, all the plugs and connectors around that area looked alright. He is asking $350. Is that too much?? Gaskets+Transmission Fluid and Labour

Just drive for a couple of days and see if it remains off. Check coolant means it's at it's low level but still has fluid in it.

What color is the fluid? Leaking. Usually transmission fluid is a different color than oil.

Thanks for replying. So the mechanic i took my car to messed up the car and i had to leave the car at the shop last night. Never gonna go back to this guy after i get my car back. I'm so pissed off right now. He changed the transmission filter and added transmission fluid like he said he was. He tells me to back out the garage and boom! the car wouldn't go back, i put it into drive and wouldn't even go Forward? So he puts the car back up, and does something. I started the car again and i gave race this time the car went back, but 2-3 seconds after i gave race. drove it up to the parking lot, same thing when i was trying to park the car. Do you know what might be wrong with the car?

Thanks Sammydragon and Phister for replying. I just got back from the mechanics. The problem was like you both said, it needed more transmission oil. MB dealership just gave him 4 litres of transmission oil, the car needed more. Plus he disconnected the battery, i think it might of been to reset everything. For some reason he had to flush out the transmission oil he put in before and then he put in some new transmission oil while the car was started, last time the car was turned off.

make sure he disconnected the battery correctly or it could have shorted something. our cars are very very touchy when removing the battery. You have to remove the negative first then positive and to reinstall you do positive then negative. If you dont do this you increase the risk of having to replace the rear SAM and other components sometimes.
