C230 Eletrical issue! Please help
Hi. I have a 2004 C230 sport. When I start the car none of the electronics in the car work. The only thing that does is the radio. None of the gauges works or interior lights, wipers, or anything. Is there a bad door latch? or can bus issue, or control module. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, check all your fuses. Check the voltage on the battery. Got 12v? 13+ when running?
Low voltage causes systems to shut down. How old it the battery?
I had this happen recently after a big storm, everything came back after it dried out.
If fuses look good, and battery is ok, disconnect the battery and let it sit for 1/2 hour or even overnight, and reconnect. Check for moisture in the car...

I checked all of the fuses and they are ok. The battery is older but has 12 volts at rest. The other thing I forgot to mention is that nothing will wrok until I restart the car. Sometimes the first time i start it everything comes back but sometimes it takes 5 or 6 trys.

If the battery is original then it is close to its use by date. I have read on this site that old batteries can cause these sort of symptoms in this car .ie The electrics in this car become problematic with a poor battery.

Does the car run? Check the voltage running please.
How old is the battery?
If it runs, then disconnect the battery for an hour or so.
Then reconnect and start.
That resets everything and can bring a car back to life.
Did the car get wet inside?
When disconnecting the battery, make sure the key is not in the ignition.
When reconnecting, same thing and doors closed. That will reduce or eliminate any voltage spike since very little current will be being drawn.
Disconnect from the bolt on the ground side.
Quickly and firmly reconnect, avoid sparking and spikes.
