Courtesy of KarlBenz: "Replacement of L5 (crankshaft position sensor) is relatively easy with proper tools 1/4' 12 inch extension with flex socket on end connected to another 3" short extension and the proper socket, simply remove air cleaner assembly and with enough light to follow/see wire behind left cylinder head remove/loosen bolt holding L5 in place reinstalling by placing grease/white lube on bolt installing in sensor and then tightening down Note that on removal a long magnet might aid in retrieving of small bolt that could fall into abyss on engine Its a simple 15 minute change"

Not covered under warranty? Most cars that is on the transmission. If you think that is a bit much go to a good private shop. But assuming ~$90/hr labor rate, 2 hours could sound about right depending on where it is mounted. Some cars it is mounted on top of the tranny and either requires a special to to get it out or dropping the tranny to get to it (My Jeep was like that) or a person with 2 elbows. Some other cars it is mounted on the side and can be easily reached, in which case 2 hours is a bit much. If you can find out where the CPS is.

somethings really wrong....please help...
i drive a 2001 c240.
i was driving one day and the car just shut off... for some odd reason. i looked at the car and it seem to be ok. i tryed starting it and it started... the check engine light was on....
in a while the engine light went off
a week later this happened again...
but this time i had trouble starting the car again...i had to move the car out of the way and than 5 minutes later i was able to start the car again. and the check engine light was on once again.... and it went away again in a while..
i drove the car to my dads auto shop. and parked it there because he wanted to take a look at it. he looked at it and it seem fine.
so now i left my car with my father for two more days.
as he was driving around it shut off again....once again the same thing happen?
i was wondering if anyone know what this is?
i really confuse and have no idea what it might be
is it because i drive it on W instead of S because thats the only thing i remmeberr changing on my car.
please help me ...
thank you

sounds like the same thing that happened to my sister's 00 CLK320. I might need to dig up the service record tho. I can't remember what the dealer have changed from fixing the problem.

Yeah, just be careful, I found out the hard way that the towing isn't free after the warranty period expires. Even though I have the 100,000 warranty, the extended one doesn't even cover towing anymore. I should have called AAA since I pay anyway but in the end the tow cost me $250.

my guess is the fuel pump... had the exact same issue with myML320... it made 3 trips to the dealer before they figured it out, becuase it was very sparatic. it would usually always start by the time the tow truck would arrive. BUT one day... never started.

1/2 the problem will be... if they can not "re-create" the problem, they will just charge you labor and say nothing is wrong with it. THE MAF sensor... a computer will tell them that it had a failure... the fuel pump... well the first 2 times the ML went in... they kept telling me that i was not putting the FUEL CAP on tightly... as that was the error the computer fed.

My dad had a similar problem on his 00' CLK320 and it was the crankshaft position sensor heating up and causing the engine to not turn over, but if you waited for a while till it cooled down it would start again!!

Help Needed Asap
Hello Everyone out there!!!! Please help me!!! I have a piece of crap 01 C320. Last week I could not get the darn thing to start. It just would not crank over. One day I did get it to start, but after driving it for about 100 yards it died on me. I got the check engine light and after reading the error code, I purchased a crankshaft position sensor (error code read P0335). Can someone tell me where it is located. My cars been in the shop so many times, Im tired of paying any extra labor costs. HELP ME OUT PLEASE!!!!
