Wheel Question ASAP PLEASE!
I know I may get chastised for asking this question, but I did a search and couldn't really find the answer I was looking for. I even did a thread search in the wheels thread.
I have the opportunity to pickup a set of ASA Wheels for $400.
Up for sale is a set of ASA AR2 Wheels. Details are as follows:
18x8
ET45
5x112
Nankang Tires 225/40/18
http://stlouis.craigslist.org/pts/3506657802.html
Will these bolt on as is, or will I need to purchase spacers? I've read so many differant theories, my head is spinning. I guess the part I'm getting confused about now is that yes, the offset is off from the stock, but the stock rims are 7" and these ones are 8"... so I'm thinking, if I bolt these on, there should be little differance...
Help! The guy said he would hold onto them until tomorrow.

youre gonna want spacers, at least a 10mm IMHO. you have to consider you're getting an extra inch and the offset is higher than OEM if I remember for your car. so its going to be in further plus the extra width of the wheel. The closer to O on offset so that means that the more lip wheel will have or further way from the hub it will be. You will have less inner wheel and more outter if that makes sense. heres a diagram of offset. With our cars I usually tell members they can run from +20 to +38 offset depending on what brakes they have. +35 is a good offset for most so they dont have to worry about rolling fenders and so forth.
Also make sure the hub bore is 66.6 for the wheels, if not you'll need hub center rings to get them to fit on the hub correctly

If I remember correctly, I have the 17" wheels with a 32 offset (front?) and a 35 offset (rear?).
I'm wondering if I should even bother... considering I'll need spacers and wheel bolts too. If I wanted to keep up the "stance" look, what would you suggest for spacers?
Again, I still thought some of the offset would be "offset" because the rim width has changed from a 7" to an 8"? No? I'm just having a hard time picturing this.
What do you think might happen if I just slapped them on temporarily? Think things would rub, or are we just talking aesthetics?

Out Of Control!!
Offset is offset, no matter the width of the wheel - it's measured from the centerline to the mounting point, not from the outside of the wheel. Study the diagrams that phister posted, and understand them; it might take you a bit to wrap your head around what would seem like a simple concept, but it might take a while to completely visualize things (it did for me).
This might help. Picture Kirstie Alley when she was in shape and a hottie. Now picture her today; she's gotten bigger, but her middlepoint is still the same. It's similar with wheels; if you don't change the offset, the wheel will mount the same if it's 7" wide or 8" (might be clearance issues with the wheel hub area, like when Kirstie gets too big and can't fit through a door).
Spacers effectively change the offset of rims, and thus, the mounting geometry. You then run into possibilities of pushing them out too far so that they hit the fenders, though.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

since they're 18x8 +45 you can run up to a 20mm spacer and still be good and not have to roll the fender but having a good stance look. since our stock lug bolt shaft length is 39.9 you'll need 60mm lug bolts if you go with a 20mm spacer.

Well, I sent an email to the guy, and said that since I have to purchase about $125 worth of spacers and bolts, I'd give him 300... guess we'll see where that leads me... probably no where!
BTW, I liked the analogy of Kirstie Alley... that put things into perspective! LOL!
