Just Bought c280 4matic, rough/hard start shifting? [PICS]

Hi everyone

Just bought my first mercedes, a 2007 c280 4matic

I've noticed that when I first start the car, the car shifts rough. For example, when I first accelerate, and then take my foot off the gas to coast, the car jerks slightly, and slows down immediately.

If I try and coast into a red light, it'll jerk and the RPMs will shoot up quickly.

These symptoms seem to subside after the car has warmed up, or at least they are much less noticeable.

I bought the car used from the Mercedes dealership, and was assured that they wouldnt be selling it on the front line unless everything had been checked out.

Any idea what could be wrong, or is this normal for these cars in 30-40 degree temperatures?

Thanks You

Easiest way would be to call service, and tell them the story and what they think. Even though they are money suckers, they should kiss your feet if you are a new customer in order to get you to return.

Anyway... My c320 2002 keeps the RPMS quite high until it starts getting warm, which is normal on these cars because thats how they warm up the catalytics (emission regulations stuff). But the car may also need to have some fluid replaced and whatnot, check the manual for when the tranny/diff/t-case oils need to be replaced, and do it if you have to (very important)

Nice interior btw, same color as mine but I wish I had the facelifted model!

thank you for the response. I do love my car, but was worried there was something majorly wrong with the transmission(even though I can't imagine the Mercedes dealer selling a lemon car)

I will call service, but knowing that its probably regular maintenance or regular warm up makes me feel more at ease. I was curious as to whether or not this was normal for the car before it warms up.

Thanks again, and any other opinions are always welcomed.

Firstly. At cold start up the car goes into high idle to warm up the Cats for emissions reasons. Transmission can jerk a little until warm.

Then one must remember that this is a highly fuel efficient transmission & locks the torque converter from just after pull off. There is no coasting with major TC slip like old US slush boxes. If you take your foot of the throttle you run against compression & the car immediately slows.

Is your 4Matic a 5 speed or 7 speed? I'm never quite sure when transmissions changed for US market on 4Matics.

If it's a 7 speed make sure it has the latest software flash.

Your dealer can check each clutch set lock up with Star to ensure it is withing the correct parameters.
