US comand & TV in motion

In case anyone is interested, I had access to stardiagnose with pre june 2002 software last saturday and I had several of my new US spec W203 comands reprogrammed to make them suiteable for TV (DVD) while in motion...(activation of the blank TV button and deleting all 4 safety triggers to prevent one from watching while driving).

The non reprogrammed comands cost 1400USD installed and the reprogrammed ones only cost 100USD more (which probably sounds better then the 450USD I saw quoted by a USA based company on the net)...

All reprogrammed comands are new, US spec and come with a 6 month warranty...

greetingz,

So how much?

Hi,

I have my command system, right beside the SVC button I have a blank button, I'm not sure if that's the one to activate the TV but, I am just curious how much is it in total to activate that button and to have a TV in my command system?

thank you,

Awaiting a new arrival...
Will you offer this service in the US or is this for new customers only? I have a US Comand which was factory-installed in my C230K, and the car has been out of use for almost 9 months. If I can pull the unit and send it off to be done, that would be a cool option. Just curious to see what you may be able to offer here. Thanks for your continuing efforts in this arena!

I can have more comands reprogrammed in the future, BUT:

* I can only have it done here in the Netherlands (where I have access to stardiagnose with older software)
* the current software needs to be replaced by the older software and after reprogramming the comands the current software has to be uploaded again...all this stardiagnose software uploading takes approx 3 hours!

Since the software needed to be updated anyways, the company who helped me out only had to spend 1,5 hours for the old software to help me out with my request...

Having TV in motion enabled per single comand is still difficult though.

reprogramming...

if with the command system reprogrammed, can the dealer reprogram it again (i don't know for what reason) and erase the modifications?

One more thing, you still need the AUX inputs and / or TV tuner kit with that right inorder to have something come up on the screen?

When You Install a Comand Into your car a 210 You MUST replace the Wood Panel..as Its a Different size ..Two Din ....No longer a single din size So Your Old Wood Wont Work

That is what they asked in the W208 section as well...it is only applicable on the W210...I have spend way too long behind my compu replying mails today and was/am getting sloppy :o .

yes, they can...without a single doubt...but only when they do it on purpose!
AUX is for an external audio source...a TV tuner or RGB like adapter IS needed for TV/DVD input - yes.

The wood panel Steve mentions is for the W210. That is the first forum in which he posted this. He forgot to edit it out for the other forums. It is not needed for 203's.

C230 Coupe
Steve,

I had a follow up question. I have a 2002 C-Coupe with a factory installed Nav. system and metal trim on the interior. Would this need to be replaced with an install or is that only for the wood trim. Also, what would the final cost be for the installation, TV adapter.........

Non of the W203 trims/panels need to be replaced...it was just a lazy copy/paste text I posted here (that is what one get's when replying mails for too long ).

If you already have factory comand - go to your MB dealership and let them activate your TV button (the blank button at the left side) after which you can use an adapter to connect a DVD player to comand...

I tested one of the US comands today with connected TV tuner in a C200k and the TV screen stayed on all the time (I didn't pass the 115mph though ).

Thank you for the response. In your opinion, are dealerships wary of activating the TV button, or is it something that should be willing to do.

Also, I was wondering on the TV adapter install. Is it complicated?
Would it allow me to watch TV or would it just allow me to watch DVDs ? If you are in California, preferably Southern Cal, I would be interested in adding that feature to my car........

Hi Steve,

I had my COMAND installed by you several months ago. I was wondering if I can convince my dealer to activate the blank TV button, can you install the TV adapter or DVD adapter to the COMAND?

I don't know whether a US dealership will have problems doing that activation...but it is easy.

Installing an OEM MB TV tuner in your car is no problem...proper DVD related adapters are not ready yet (the only usefull adapters are PAL adapters...not NTSC).

On a sidenote: I do not mind trading in my own previously sold and installe dcomands for one with TV while in motion possibilities...I can do that for an additional 200USD and will swap the CD drive so all the stored navigation data will stay...

greetingz,
