Unhappy 02 C240 not blowing air at bottom

I recently got an 02 C240 with about 69xxx miles on it and when I change the air flow to the bottom or top/bottom setting nothing blows on the bottom.

The car recently got the Schedule B maint. right before I got car and I'm wondering if they could have caused this because I know they replaced some interior air filters and the previous owner (my dad) never put the air on his feet.

Please help as it's currently 18F degrees here and I'd like some heat on my feet!

Search "Climatronic easter egg". That shows you how to do an HVAC reset on the dash controller.

If this does not work you either have a stuck flap, a failed stepper motor or a broken stepper motor arm.

Glyn,

I tried the HVAC reset and that didn't fix the problem. Any advice on how I can determine whether the a stepper motor failed or if a stepper motor arm broke?

The most common issue related to this is the stepper motor linkage breaking, which is a plastic arm connecting the motor to the flap that directs the air. Do you hear some loud clicking coming from the dash upon starting the car? If so then an arm is broken, if not then the motor might be broken, although that is not as common. If you don't hear any clicking, you could take the car to a mechanic with a STAR diagnostic machine and if a motor is broken it will bring up a code if you want to do that.

When you did the reset, did it stop cycling through the vents after 30ish seconds or did it keep going? If it kept going then something is broken in there.

I don't hear any clicking noises coming from the dash at start up. I'll probably be going to a mechanic and I'll be sure to ask how are they going to diagnose it.

The motor itself is probably dead then, hooking it up to STAR will confirm if that is the case.
