TP sensor?

Hello, I hope you are all well.
I have an 04 C230K this is the 1.8 hatchback version.
I’ve had no end of problems with this car, here are the two latest problems.
1.) When driving after about 20 minutes I appear to lose power. If I press the accelerator to the floor the car goes very slowly, almost like the limiter is set to 30mph. If I stop and turn the engine off and start the car again sometimes this problems clears and everything is back to normal for a while. Sometimes I have to turn the car on and off about 10 times before the problem clears. I was told on my last service the throttle position sensor might be to blame. If this problem sounds familiar how easy would it be to fit a replacement TP sensor myself? Where is this sensor located on the car? Can anyone recommend any good suppliers and direct me to some instructions on how to do this? I’d really like to do this myself as whenever this car goes in for a service the bill is no less than £1000! I’m paying more than the car is worth every year just to keep it on the road. Also, to save some time does anyone know what the exact size of the bolts are that hold this sensor on? Assume it’s some kind of star key as most things on this car appear to be.

2.) On a cold start the screen on the dashboard goes red and says Check battery / Alternator. This only lasts for about 5 minutes then it clears and everything is fine. I’d like to think this was the battery and a replacement battery would solve this issue. However my gut feeling is this is something bigger and it’s going to cost the earth to put right, if that’s the case then I think I will flog it on e-bay.
Any help on the above two issues would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

You need to download stored codes with an OBDII scanner. OBDII port is under the steering column behind an oblong flap.

It could be TPS. You have to replace the pedal assembly. RMeuropean is a good parts supplier. Held on by M6 nuts with cover & washer.

Get your electrics sorted.

The voltage of the battery tells little of its condition. You need to check the battery using a Midtronics tester (or equal) to know if you need a battery. It is false economy to purchase an aftermarket battery as most are undersized for the Benz electrical system. The OEM battery may be a few quid more, but will not leave you hanging. If your battery is original, it is about finished, anyhow. Budget for a new one soon.

If you change it yourself, see the sticky to resync the windows and whatnots. It is really easy.

+1^ buy a genuine MB 100 Ah battery. Have your existing battery properly load tested.
