My brand new Mercedes Benz C Class rear end arrived barely a week after ordering it (8 days exactly) from Potomac German Auto. Part number A 203 351 00 08 makes it for a W 203 C Class, supposedly for the anemic C 240?
attached photo of entire assembly. Only was $40 shipping cross country.

Actually I was hoping for the Laurel wood I ordered last Monday so I can get the aluminum out by Labor Day. Maybe in the next couple of days
This is the prefect rear end for the M281 engined 2003-04 1.8 liter Coupes and Sports Sedans. I undersatnd the 2004 may have a 3.47 rear end ( someone check) which would be a 7% increase in torque for $590
My 2003 with it's 3.27 rear end will get a 12% increase in torque

Now that is what I call a mod.
12% increase in applied torque.
awsome mod, one of the first things I did in a 69 Beaumont (Canadian Chevelle) a few years ago, turned out to be a awsome increase in "set you back in your seat" feel.
How much was it for the center section?
will you have a before and after 0-60 ect?
Let us know what you think after the install.
cheers

According to MBUSA the 2004 has the 3.47 rear. The funny thing is that the 0-60 time is thesame as the 2003. I had heard that the 2003 has a 3.47 rear as well, but I can not find any info on it. Check your 2003 and see what rear it has when you pull it out.

I suggest we start a rear end swapping area. A lot of the C240 sedans are purchased with 3.47s and 3.67s and get horrible gas mileage. Sinch those of us with 3.27s want those higher ratio rear ends, a swap with just shipping would benefit all.

Lars, then it must be 3.46. Actually it probably is 3.45567 then some people round up to 3.47 and some round down to 3.46.
But of MB puts 3.46 then lets use that number.
Lars, is your car 6 speed stick or 5 speed auto?

Yay!
Now this is an interesting thread.
Best of luck, please keep us posted on the final outcome.
Any worries about the auto transmission needing ECU changes to match the new rear ratio?

The information I had was the Coupe with stick had the 3.46 and the coupes with auto used the 3.27.
I don't have good information on the C230 sedans, the C320s all used 3.27s and the mighty c240 used 3.46s and 3.67s.

My 2003 C230 6 Speed has a 3.47. No all we need is someone with a 2003 C230 5 speed built after January to check theres. Since the 2004's all have the 3.47 for the auto or stick in a C230 Coupe or Sedan.

There are quite a few things to do before installing the 3.67 rear end.
First need a dyno of the stock set up.
Second the EGS and the speedometer has to be reprogrammed for the new ratio rear end.
Third, time to do the actual install, which is the easiest part, about two hours.
I have two conventions to go to in the next two weeks, so towards the end of September it may be installed

rrf,
There may be three choices, no price quoted yet.
Bergwerks which is near me.
http://www.bergwerks.com/different.jsp
Kleeman http://www.kleemannusa.com
and Donnie Drummonds (Benzmac) owner of www.mbautowerks.com
Richard Jaques at Potomac German Parts has two more C240 rear ends, 3.67!!!
I confirmed they are from C240's.
He has no 3.47s in stock, a whole pile of 3.27s and 3.06s.

Second, from what I understand, the VSS is on the front wheel so why would you need calibration?
Third - Just do it!

Buellwinkle,
Donnie from says mbautowerks "
He seems to really know what he is talking about. There are no problems with the 6 speed stick, just with the auto. Check out his web site, they have done some awesome cars

swapped diffs and it will screw with every thing.
The tranmission controller looks and N2 and N3 speed sensors and compares them to wheel speed. If it is more than 3% difference, it will go into limp.
they are also compared to the rpm sensor and the torque converter.
The difference is in the 4 sensors on the wheels as compared to the N2 and three
If you change a few bits and bites in the trans controller, the car will think that diff came in there and all will work as it should.
