Mercedes Benz C230 Kompressor 2005
New to Mercedes Benz World

Hey, I am from Dominican Republic and Just bought my first benz, a white 2005 C230 Kompressor with only 27k miles, it was checked by a mercedes mechanic and everyhting was perfect. I dont understand how a car with 8 years can be in this contidions, i will post pictures later. I am very excited and i find the site very helpful, looks its going to be my new homepage

Is there any thread for Mercedes newbies or somewhere i can find some posts related to my car?

Thanks

There are a bunch of "sticky" threads at the top of the forum which you should probably spend a couple of hours reviewing, there's a ton of good information up there. Also, phister's build thread is what you should probably be looking through too.

Where in the DR do you live? Lived a year myself in Santo Domingo, and a year in Bella Vista, a tiny little campo outside of Sosua from 90-92. I'm old!

Welcome to the forum, good info here - make sure to search things here, I'd say that most of your questions have already been answered a couple of times already. You're right - your car looks to be in great shape. Enjoy!

Welcome! Very nice find! Congratulations on your new ride!

Tommy gave you good advice for finding good threads. Don't forget to search for topics of interest - you'll find a lot of info that way (though it can be tedious!). Also keep checking the forum. Old threads get revived and new ones are started constantly. There's always a good discussion about some W203 topic going on. If you don't find the information you need, don't be afraid to ask. There are a lot of helpful people here too!

I actually bought mine used, so I'm not too sure what the previous owner had to deal with, but so far, I've had to change:

Coil packs
Spark plugs
Brake pads
Lower control arms
and various bulbs going out.

I purchased a set of projector fog lights from Gary@Suvneer because my driver side fog was out and I should be installing them pretty soon. Other than that, it's a great car. Not too bad on gas either.

I've had basically two problems - I had the airbag wiring harness fry and I've had two A/C compressors go out. The airbag harness and the first compressor were on extended warranty, thankfully, but the second A/C compressor was on me. What happened the second time is the sprag bearing (do a search) went out and that takes the compressor out. I'm sure somebody a lot smarter than I am designed that system, but I haven't figured out why it is a good thing. The symptom is that you'll hear a screech that sounds like a belt slipping or tires screeching on a rubber floor. That is the sprag bearing going out and it will take your compressor out if you don't get it in time.

Other than that (that sounds like a lot, doesn't it?), my car has been pretty reliable. My wife has a 2006 C230 and it has been very reliable.

I've tried to keep pretty close to the recommended maintenance and do most of it myself. I don't do A/Cs or automatic transmissions but I take care of brakes, power steering fluid, oil changes, etc...
