Hello everyone! Only been a week since I joined the MB club

Just bought a C230 last week. I have been so excited since the purchase, I have already put on 1000 miles. This is a great car!!!

I have a question: Are owners here going the full 10,000 miles before their first service (i.e. oil & filter change)? In my past cars I have always changed the oil after the initial 1500 to 3000 miles just to get the initial microscopic metallic pieces out of the engine. On the other hand, I`ve heard German manufacturers putting specially formulated oil specifically blended for break-in period.

Thanks in advance,

Jun

I changed my oil at 3000 miles. The engine is considered to be broken in after 1000 miles.

congrats on your new purchase.

some members here changed their oil at 3-5k others just waited till service A.

i did mine at service A. if you are going to do an oil change before service A, it will come out of your pocket.

enjoy your car!

Welcome to the board!

I also waited until "A" service, around 9400 miles (they'll do your service when you're within 1000 miles of the FSS). I figured MB wouldn't recommend long intervals that would result in many damaged engines...

BTW, I've seen a few pewter sedans on the road-- I like that color!

Thanks everyone for your kind words

I will probably end up waiting for service A as I trust MB and Mobil 1 being synthetic.

I must say the people who make up this site is great with a lot of knowledge and enthusiasm. I feel like I am good company here if I ever run into problems or have questions with my car.

Thanks!

Jun

ps. here's my car under sunlight (I personally like Pewter under indoor light as opposed to direct sunlight)

Quick Question

Hey Quick question with your new baby, I got a 2003 230k sedan last month and wanted to compare. Does your vent scroll wheels illuminate at night? From the picts you're also missing the center blue wheel and center speaker grill wheel that is shown on the MB website on the c320. For some reason I remembered that mine had illuminated scroll wheels but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I'll have to check the vent wheels next time when I drive at night

I do remember it being illuminated, but I'm not sure.

I'll check and get back to you.

I wasn't sure about the Pewter at first, but.....

I wasn't sure about the Pewter at first (I agree, too close to desert silver - although a modded out desert silver also looks nice), but it is growing on me.

I really wanted the C230 in alabaster white, but Pewter was the only color I could find with the light package at my dealer.

Pewter is nicer than Alabaster, IMO. The vent wheels are not illuminated in the C230/240. The center "blue" wheel and dash vent wheel were deleted in mid-2003 I believe.
