M272 - Problems

M272 - Problems
Okay, we all know about the issue of "balance shaft gear" who affects a range of the M272 engine.
So, I'm wondering if you know some easy tips/hints (without passing by the MB workshop) to detect if the teeth gear are worn or not, rather than waiting the P0016/P0017 codes to pop out in the MIL ?
(change of driving behavior, engine noise, color of engine oil, ...)
Additional question regrading the "Magnet" : when we replace it with the improved camshaft adjustment solenoids (A272 051 01 77), the fault codes P0014/0015 disappear that is great but do you know if the new improved "Magnet" resolve the problem or it only hide it ?

The only thing I know of is regular oil inspections. Blackstone Labs (http://www.blackstone-labs.com/) is your friend.

+1 ^ or you can lift one cambox cover & do a boroscope inspection of the balance shaft sprocket.
