What mods to do?

Hello MB world. I have recently purchased a 2006 C230 2.5L, now that its time for summer, and school is out of the way, I'm thinking about modifying my car.... but i have no idea where to start? Help?

I have scheduled an appointment for this weekend to get the back windows tinted. Thought about changing the side markers from the orange ones to white ones. Anything else?

Thanks~!!

Just enjoy driving it! Save that money for maintenance and repairs.

Just have a look at the Official Picture Thread and that will give you an idea of where to start off when you see things that others have done that you like. From that you can just tailor your mods to your taste.

I agree that you should also save up for a rainy day fund in the event you need maintenance or repairs.

Best bang for the buck is to put in better sway bars

do general maintenance first like new air filter, cabin filter, spark plugs (depending on the mileage, should be done at 100k), changing brake pads (I suggest akebono, OEM stopping with almost 0 brake dust).

From there it all depends on what you want from performance, aesthetics, or sound.

If you want performance:

ECU retune by OETuning or Eurocharged (they have a sale going on right now)
Air Filter like K&N or Green filter (some say the oil from the filters mess up the MAF)
custom exhaust (theres a ton of ways to go on this route, but it really doesn't help performance)
Headers (obx makes some and sells them on ebay, around 400, needs some modifying to clear steering rack)

Suspension
Springs w/ struts/shocks like koni, bilstein, or other brand
coilovers
sway bars (great mod for handling)
stud conversion

Brakes
BBK (big brake kit) from Stoptech, Brembo, or upgrading to larger AMG ones

Aesthetics
CF lip, trunk spoiler, roof spoiler
Euro impact strips or smoked or cleared corners (I have a set of lightly smoked ones I'll sell you)
painting the grill or getting a different one
painting the lower middle part of the rear bumper black
wheels
painting roof black depending on color of the car
Projector or Bi-x headlights with HIDs

Interior
Aux adaptor for oem hu
upgraged hu
new speakers/subs
wrapping console and accents in cf or getting a different color
changing out the shift knob

that's all I can think of now

Thanks a lot for the suggestions phister. This guy just finished tinting my windows. I guess next is an aux cable, doing plastidip on grill and a trunk spoiler.

Anymore suggestions?

Thank you!!!

What, wasn't phister's list enough?

The only things I can really think of that he didn't mention would be
LSD
Aftermarket Seating
Alcantara Headliner
Debadging
Turbo or Supercharger
Widebody
Fuzzy Dice on Rear Mirror

Really, there isn't much out there that he didn't cover.

also switching bulbs to led is a mod most do... just make sure it has a resistor. Aznoptic is a sponsor on here and they have good leds that wont cause the error lights to come one.

Switching which bulbs? I'm still kinda new to modding benz as well. Had my car 5months and here are my mods so far: upgraded to OEM bi-xenon headlights, clear corner markers with stealth bulbs, k&n filter, wider tires on back 255/40/17potenza, and have bought three different grills but still have the factory one bolted on cuz I can't make my mind up.

All interior and exterior bulbs like the reading lights, door lights, front and rear dome lights, license plate lights, trunk light, side markers, etc.

The two most notable "upgrades" for my car were:

* Bilstein TC shocks/struts. Even though they are reported to be built to stock specifications, they feel firmer than the Sachs-Boge and give the car a more European sporty feel. My car already has a sport suspension so the springs are lower and sway bars are already fairly beefy. Adding the Bilsteins really made a difference for me.

* Aftermarket nav unit. The stock stereo head unit is just too antiquated nowadays ... my Pioneer AVIC double-din head unit has GPS, handsfree phone, bluetooth audio, HD radio, and enough SD and USB storage to hold 5000 of my favorite songs, all recallable from a decent "File Manager" touch screen user-interface. Even without the amp, wiring and speakers, the new head unit sounded noticably better than the original Audio 20 that was in the car. And I was able to ditch the bulky CD changer and recover a lot of space in the glove compartment. (btw, if anyone is looking for a used Audio 20 and/or CD changer, please PM me ...)

And one questionable upgrade:

* drilled rotors for the rear brakes. They look much nicer than the non-drilled, but they make noise from the pads moving over the holes ... sounds a bit like clothes-pinning a baseball card to your bicycle frame to flap against the spokes.

I just got them when I replaced the rotors and pads all around .. They weren't much more ($10-20) then the nondrilled ones. Zimmerman coated .. Easy to find. I think the slotted ones would have cost more.

so what do you recommend for a black wagon?
I kinda want it to look a bit different than the average family car

unfortunately
"painting the lower middle part of the rear bumper black and painting the roof"
won't make a big difference i think

@MB2013 :
I'd change the taillights to s-class style - looks delicious on dark coloured w203s

I would definitely lower it, put some nice black wheels on it and do something with the exhaust to give it a nice deep, serious tone. That way when they see you passing by they will know you're NOT on your way to a soccer game!
