M271 Headers?

Greetings!

I am looking to speed up my Merc a bit. I was looking on eBay and found some headers. I found a few sets, that aren't too expensive. however it seems the 1 and 4 and 2 and 3 cylinders connect together. Wouldn't this cause exhaust to "collide" and cause more pressure?

Anyway, what is the consensus around these parts as to the best sounding a most performance headers for the m271?

Thanks!

Oh and also will not having the cat that is directly near the manifold cause problems? Check engine lights, etc?

I believe that no one has really found headers that do much for your engine other that make the bay prettier.

Not having a cat will give you a CEL, yes. Magnaflow makes good cats; I've had one on my M111 for about 4 years now, and no CEL.

There are other threads about headers. I think OBX was one brand that was very inexpensive that got mixed reviews. They used to be available on Ebay. They were supposed to be copies Kleemann's headers. I don't think Kleemann sells them any more. They were pretty expensive and I heard no complaints about the quality of workmanship. Some claimed performance improvement from both.

As for the ones you found, I've heard nothing.

I think there are probably better and more reliable ways of improving performance like a pulley kit and a tune. There are threads on them, too. They have been recommended.

The pictured headers are for the M111 engine and will not fit the M271 afaik. Strangely enough, some ebay sellers state the M111 headers will fit C230 kompressor all the way up to 2006 although the M111 was discontinued 2003.

On the M271, i've seen dyno pulls from kleemann indicating 15-20hp on top of the ecu and pulley gains.

EDIT: this is a picture of a M271 stock header, notice the bolt pattern difference

Contact Kleemann US about headers for your M271. I emailed them around January and they quoted me at I think $700 for the headers and downpipe.

Thanks for the response. It is a 2005 c230. I didn't know there was other versions of the M271. It is the USA spec car if that makes a difference.

The header in that pic does not go to your engine.
this one does.
