M271 Headers?
M271 Headers?
Greetings!
I am looking to speed up my Merc a bit. I was looking on eBay and found some headers. I found a few sets, that aren't too expensive. however it seems the 1 and 4 and 2 and 3 cylinders connect together. Wouldn't this cause exhaust to "collide" and cause more pressure?
Anyway, what is the consensus around these parts as to the best sounding a most performance headers for the m271?
Thanks!

I believe that no one has really found headers that do much for your engine other that make the bay prettier.
Not having a cat will give you a CEL, yes. Magnaflow makes good cats; I've had one on my M111 for about 4 years now, and no CEL.

There are other threads about headers. I think OBX was one brand that was very inexpensive that got mixed reviews. They used to be available on Ebay. They were supposed to be copies Kleemann's headers. I don't think Kleemann sells them any more. They were pretty expensive and I heard no complaints about the quality of workmanship. Some claimed performance improvement from both.
As for the ones you found, I've heard nothing.
I think there are probably better and more reliable ways of improving performance like a pulley kit and a tune. There are threads on them, too. They have been recommended.

On the M271, i've seen dyno pulls from kleemann indicating 15-20hp on top of the ecu and pulley gains.
EDIT: this is a picture of a M271 stock header, notice the bolt pattern difference
