Piston 2 wont go up or down
Just bought a 2007 c280 from auction no start, piston #2 wont go up or down.
All others ok . When i Manually spin the motor it will rotate a few times then come to stop, if i back up it will rotate once again.
Any ideas ? car has 35k mileshttps://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif

This is a common fault with an engine with 2 crank shafts .
I suggest rotating the #1 crosshead 360' & all will be well.

This engine however has one crank shaft. It may have dropped a valve on #2. Do you have access to a boroscope? If so take out the plug on #2 & take a look.

Two cranks?? How does that work?
Might have a broken rod or sheared the pin. as Glyn said, pull the plug and take a look as you rotate the engine. I woiuld say carefully, but I would guess the cylinder is past that if you've already been rotating it. The issue is, if the rod is broken, or the pin is sheared. Now your running the rest of the rod that's connected to the crank, up and down the cylinder wall giving it nice scratches. Will most likely need to be honed.
Sounds like it could be a full rebuild, or a new engine.

Look up H configuration engines. Yamaha have also built a number of V4 twin crank engines. Yamaha's OW-70 GP bike used a very unique 50-degree, twin crank V-four motor. Twin cranks geared together.
They have also been seen in aircraft & marine applications

and don't forget Jim Clark's BRM engined Lotus 43 F1 car in 1966, despite winning a race it was a great car let down by a poor engine

Not practical ~ Take the engine out. If it is just a bent valve & there is no piston or rod damage you could repair in situ. Take the head off on that side first to examine.

Yes ~ I had forgotten about that. In the case of the Yamaha, Kenny Roberts championship winning twin crank 4 cylinder two-stroke bike Yamaha mitigated losses with the extra cylinder when the competition was running single crank V3's ~ e.g. Honda.
