Steering Help!
Steering Help!
I've been searching for the past few days via the forums for an understanding of this issue!
A couple of days ago, my return Power Steering feed burst and left me without power steering 20 miles from home. Gently nursing the car home I found a more worrying issue. When I went round a tight bend to the left, the steering wheel slipped by about 45 degrees. It happened again and finally once more when I was pulling the car into the drive.
I know I have 2 problems with the car - 1 Power steering return feed replacement but I'm stumped to figure what the Steering shaft issue may be.
What could move to this extent within the steering shaft components to now have my steering nearly wheel upside down when heading straight.
Any tips would be much appreciated!
Needless to say, the car is off the road until I get time (this weekend) to investigate further.

It's a pity you drove the car. 20 miles with no fluid has probably ruined the steering pump.
Something is severely wrong. Check the steering column coupling to the rack.

All the documents you need to work on the steering are in the Wiki.

So, yes - there was something seriously wrong
Took the drivers wheel off and noticed the power steering fluid leaking from the track boot! Not a nice feeling. Local mechanic diagnosed a failed Steering Rack. New one was ordered (2nd hand) and fitted! Steering now firm and tight.
Now the next thing, have driven the car around 100 miles since it was fixed and got home today with the engine fan on full blast! Noticed a lot of water around the front of the engine bay and it looks as if there's a leak on the Coolant Pump!
I'm from Scotland, lucky white heather anyone? (white heather is deemed to be lucky and i've started selling
!)
Thanks for your reply Glyn - I took your advice and got it seen to immediately, not sure if I'm ok with the steering pump, it is twittering slightly under the hood just now. I can see I'll probably need to change it soon!
