Quick Question... About back seats on C320
Hey i was just wondering,
My 2002 C320 looks like the back seats fold down but i can't find any way to fold them down.. Is there anyway or are the seats just locked there like that.

they either fold down or they don't.
Some C320's came with that option. If you do, the latches are up top, and the seats split 60/40. You can't miss if if they do.
If you're having that much trouble figuring out how to fold them, then I would venture to say that you didn't get the fold-down option.

Some of the C's come with the split-fold option. Amazingly, it is an option, and not a standard feature on our cars. There are several ways to tell if you have this option or not. First off is checking the rear deck where the speakers are located. In addition to the speaker grills, the LATCH anchors, there will be 2 plastic oval pieces on the rear deck. These are for letting you know when the seats are not fully latched/locked back in its' upright position. When they are down or not fully locked, and little red lever pops up from these plastic ovals.
Another way to see whether you have the split-fold seats or not is to pop open the trunk. Underneath the rear deck, towards the top, there will be 2 levers, one on the left and one on the right. On the older models (2001-2003), they had a red sticker on the levers, but the newer models, they removed the sticker (probably to save the $0.03 cents it costs M-B for them). Pulling each lever will unlatch the appropriate side seat. If you look closely, you should also be able to see the cables leading towards the back of the seats.
Finally, if you have the split-fold seats, you also have the ski/pass-thru option thru the center armrest. Again, looking at the rear of the seats from inside the trunk, if you see a little plastic door in the middle of the seatback, then that's the pass-thru. If it's all carpeted with no plastic door, you don't have the split-fold seats.

C240 Folding Rear Seat retrofit
Hi-
I just bought a c240 2003. It's got everything I need EXCEPT a folding rear seat.
Any way to retro fit/purchase a folding rear seat? I can live without it but would rather not
Thanks:

No - I think it can be done - in fact - I read that both folding and non folding cars share the same structure and that it WAS and HAS been done with all facotry parts. You can see on non folding the location for the levers, the cables and other parts...I think even the seat nut mount covers are the same...You will need ALOT of new parts from hinges to rear package tray and it will cost you well over the $290 USD option...I think if you SEARCH THIS FORUM...or the NET you will see it costs about $2,000...
My wife wants it in her w203...My plan - in a few years...FInd a good example wreck in a salvage yard and pull EVERYTHING out...
Good luck,
Jake

This does not mention the rear package tray - and maybe preface lift this is not needed...but in the 2005 operators manual it states there are pop up icons to tell ou if the seat back is locked or not...

I'm not sure the cost to replace the seats makes it worth it. Modifying the rear hat tray doesn't seem too hard though. I agree it's doable - but it's one of those things - like adding command - pricey to do later, but to some the money is well spent.

definitely, now thinking of doing this folding-seat w/ the ski-sack pass through option on my 2004.5 SS.
I'll have to check with MBenzNL to see if he can install the vacuum lines too.

Ok, let me add my "me too" to this thread:
I would also like to retrofit this mod ('07 C230). Yes, I have searched this forum and the web and have yet to come up with a good writeup or parts list.
Link anyone?
Yes, I know it will be expensive, but I hope (perhaps unrealistically) that it is possible to get some of that back by selling my non-folding seats.
