Frequent oil changes

I know that MBZ recommends we change the oil in our coupe every 10,000 miles. Will our dealerships cover oil changes if we want to do them say, every 5,000 miles? And would you recommend this?

Been there, tried that. Mercedes will only cover changes when FSS tells you that you need them. This usually occurs between 10.000 - 13,000 miles. I change the oil myself in between for peace of mind.

The dealer will do it for you, but you'll pay.

I had the dealer change my oil at 3500 and I brought in my own Mobil 1. If I recall correctly, it was around $28.00 for labor and the filter. Granted, the two cases of Mobil 1 cost me over $50.00.

Correction, labor and filter was a grand total of $18.68.

I would follow FSS and not change oil until it says so. MB would not specify such a long interval if they thought it was harmful. Premature oil changes will just cost you money. If they bring you piece of mind oh well whatever makes you happy.

No....

You can change it as much as you want for a fee... but they will only do it when the FSS says to do so. I have a deal with them that they do it every 10k regardless and I do it in between. I usually change it every 5k - 6k. But they are all on me at $95 per hit.. what is everyone paying for oil changes?

My dealership quoted me $92.00 for an unscheduled oil change with the synthetic oil. Seems steep.

Those prices are unreal! As I said, the total cost to change my oil at the dealer was $18.68.

Breakdown:

Filter 8.50
O-Ring .40
labor 9.25
tax .53

I bought 2 cases (12 quarts) of Mobil 1 (my dealer uses Castrol) for $57.00 and took 7 quarts (Coupe calls for 6.1) with me to the dealer. The oil change only took 6 quarts, so, at $28.50 for oil, $18.68 for parts and labor, the total is only $47.18
