Hi I am new to the site. I have an SLK 230 and a C200 Elegance
and I live in the UK.
about 2 months ago whilst in France I pulled in to fill with fuel and even though the nozzle went in OK fuel would just dribble in and the gun would cut out as though full. I pulled into another station and fuelled with no problems.
This week I did the same thing and the fuel would not go in, I managed to get 12 ltrs in after about 15 minutes. This has now become a common occurrence as I tried again last night and suffered the same humility.
Please, please help
Thanks in advance

You likely need a new charcoal canister. It is probably saturated with fuel. In the past did you frequently "top off" your gas after the nozzle clicks to get to that even dollar amount?
This overflows gasoline into the charcoal canister, which is only designed to trap fuel vapors. Even if you didn't cause it with topping off, they sometimes just fail and do not vent properly when you are filling causing the nozzle to click. The gas tank needs to vent air when filling up with gas, and if it can't, you won't be able to fill properly.
Good luck.

Sir
Thank you kindly, this ticks all the boxes, I shall order one today.
I travel a lot in Europe and have a tendency when locating fuel at a cheaper price to try and get as much in the tank. For once I should have taken notice of the owners manual.
Once again many thanks.

Cannot fill with fuel
I have a 52 plate avantegarde all of a sudden I found that I was unable to fill with fuel.
I have check the carbon filter and that was fine.what confuses me is the valve assembley that is attached to the top of the filler pipe under the rear wing.
Could someone explain it's exsistence and could this be the cause of my problems.
any other explanation to the no fuel problem would be gratefull appreciated.
at present having to stick a rod down to hold the anti siphon flap open and hold the nozzle about 10mm away from filler so air can escape. now takes 20 minutes to fill.

It seems that you think you are the oracle and everything that you utter is correct, in the reply that you gave me in the other thread I tried and as you can see it did not make any difference.
You have then either failed to read the rest of my thread as you have not answered any of the other questions.
I notice that you have posted 114 times, I hope that they gave valuable information because your answer to me "I answered that in another thread" is completely pathetic. I hope a moderator is looking at this as I think you bring down the credit ability of the forum and if that is your best answer to a real problem then don't waste your energy as it was worthless

Rebuttal
I thanked Holmes 5518 for his answer to my question this it seems was premature, not only is it not the cause of my problem but he tried to ridicule me when I post the same problem in a new thread with the words " I already answered that in another thread" he did not even bother to read the new thread because I asked a whole lot of questions and the above did not answer any of them

You need to calm down, he is just trying to help! Just because someone gives a solution does not mean it will work for your specific car, there are thousands of w203's on the road, and that might be a solution for someone else's problem. And also maybe you shouldn't post two threads relating to the same problem and then we wouldn't have this problem. This is a forum- a place where people exchange ideas on a particular problem. Holmes5518 isnt there personally to look at your car. So don't bash people when they fail to give the right solution, people are just trying to help.

I am not bashing and certainly do not take each answer as the correct one. However what I dislike is when I post a item and put in the reply that I have already tried the solution and it did not work. I do not expect the person to state they have already answered the problem in another thread.
I am a degree engineer with many years experience and have a staff of 30 engineers, when we have problems we throw it in the pot and discuss. We do not throw out " I already answered that" which in itself indicates that the author believes he has solved the problem.
I see you also have not looked at the other thread before jumping. Good principle " have all your soldiers in a row"

"My soldiers are in a row"- Hence why I am replying, I did look at the thread and that's what lead me to THIS thread. I'm not here to argue over the internet with someone I don't even know. The only thing I was saying was stop bashing when people try to help. All you had to do was say "unfortunately your solution did not work, any other ideas?". Listen your a newbie, and I'm still pretty new to the site too, but what I have seen so far if people don't like an answer they receive the immediately post a new thread. Instead you could have just edited the information and maybe more people would have looked, I'm not bashing or trying to upset you, you and I are still learning how to use this forum. Just don't say other members are trying to "Ridicule"you. I'm sure those weren't his intentions.
And I do apologize for saying that you did not appreciate his answer, that was just my interpretation from what I read.

OK guys ~ enough. The OP still has an issue & fighting or giving monosyllabic answers does not help.
OP ~ If no one has intentionally stuffed something down your filler pipe you have a tank breather problem or EECS (Evapourative Emission Control System) problem. You are going to have to do a systematic check of the items illustrated.

This is for 112 engine but all EECS systems are basically the same. Schematic is valid.
You can find additional information on the subject in the W203 Wiki. If you need the SLK tank arrangement I can post.
Good luck!
