I've already replied to this question several times. Do a search. It requires replacement of other modules as well and is expensive.

greetingz,
What is involved in installing the 209 Cluster?

Is it plug & play?

What happens to the original mileage on the car, does it need updating via Star?

Thanks!!!

What's involved... lots of patience, and a knowledgeable person to do the conversion.

It is DEFINITELY NOT plug and play!!

The mileage (and all other relevant info) needs to be updated through Star when getting a different cluster.

I have an 06 W203...........and I'm honestly never seen the clunky cluster from the wagon.......got any pics, I'm curious as to what it looks like.

Thank you everyone for your replies. It looks like swapping the cluster is going to be a cluster. I could certainly handle the electronic and mechanical aspects of the job (I've designed, built, and programmed entire digital engine management systems for some of my previous cars). The issue for me is the proprietary Star Diagnose system that is needed to re-adjust settings. Getting access to one and someone willing to make the changes without giving up your first born will be difficult here. The reason I was asking it that I was hoping to get a C320S4 which as far as I know was not available in 2005 with the better instrument cluster.

I have attached a picture of the old style instrument cluster for TA-9FF.

Didn't think it would be, never mind. Perhaps we will have to think of someother mods! Perhaps a C32 180 mph cluster???

Replacing Instrument cluster?

Will an instrument cluster from a 2005 and after C230 fit into the cluster for a 2004 C230? Any modifications needed, or will it just plug into the same connections. I like the 2005-2007 cluster better. Thanks.

Unless you want to spend thousands of dollars replacing lot of internals, save everybody the time of responding and search for threads started by Sunman.

Please use the search. This topic has been discussed before. Locking thread.

What are the differences b/w W209 & W203?

'The Mercedes-Benz W209 cars have been produced since 2002. They are sold under the CLK-Class model names. The W209 is based on the W203 C-Class.'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_W209

Besides from the differences in face-mask, 2-door, and the fact that CLK has convertible top. What are the other exterior differences b/w W209 & W203? Wider? Longer?

CLK Dimensions:
Wheelbase 106.9 in
Overall length 183.2 in
Overall height 55.4 in
Overall width 68.5 in
http://www.mbusa.com/models/features...C&class=07_CLK

C-Class Dimensions:
Wheelbase 106.9 in
Overall length 178.4 in
Overall height 55.6 in
Overall width 68.0 in

C55 AMG, 135i, 911 GT3, GLE43 AMG
1) W209 CLK is strictly a 2 door coupe or cabrio. The W203 C-class is a 4 door sedan, 4 door wagon, or 2 door sports coupe which is completely different in its shape compared to the CLK.
2) W209 interior instrument cluster comes from the W211 E-class. The CLK also has circular air vents, as opposed to rectangular air vent in the W203 C-class. In fact, the entire interior design of the CLK is different from the C-class, except that they share the same centre radio/climate control stack.
3) There are options which are only available on the CLK, like keyless go.
4) For the W209 CLK, there has been/continues to be an option for a non-AMG V8 version (CLK500, CLK550), which are NOT available on the W203 C-class.
5) The W203 C-class had 2 AMG versions in North America: C32 AMG and C55 AMG. The W209 CLK-class also had 2 versions in North America: CLK55 AMG and CLK63 AMG (only in cabrio form).

C class is made by MB in an MB factory by MB employees. The CLK is made by Karmann. Since MB makes such unreliable cars (actually slid 4 notches from bad to worse in Consumer Reports survey), I would think the CLK is better since it's not made by MB.

There you go! Those are the differences.

Oh and like $16,000.

Many thanks guys!! So I guess there isn't that much of a difference from the exterior, the higher price tag of a CLK goes in the interior.

PC Valkyrie: Thanks for the detailed reply!!

Well Coupes are always more expensive, because of the look and the aerodynamics and so forth. Also, the CLK is more luxurious and prestigious to the C-Class. The CLK and the C-Class don't seem to many as the obvious relation between the 3-Series Sedan and Coupe. Some people think it's a completely different car.

I learned this info now and I am shocked and go to Karmann website , it is true.

short info from Karmann;

''The Mercedes-Benz CLK convertible, the Audi A4 convertible, the Chrysler Crossfire coupe and roadster, the roof systems for the Renault Mégane convertible and the Volkswagen New Beetle convertible: These are some examples of our current production reference list......

I can not understand Why this car models produce by orginal maker .
